Having read a couple of posts on high speed driving in your scoob(not being suited to it). I have a concern about this. The first time i took my JDM WRX Wagon (my 95) with 74,000 miles on the clock, abroad in 2001 i was sitting at an average of 90 mph on the way there and 100mph on the way home. It was mid July 90 degrees (spain). The only problem i had was i put the wrong oil in the gearbox and fried the oil, luckily no box damage. The car was standard and running on european 97-98 ron fuel.Last year i went in my MY01 V7 STI Wagon, averaging 90 mph again in mid july fully loaded and with 5 of us in total in the car. The only thing i had to top up was the Waterspray, every 350 miles.I had no problems with either car, both carrying loads of luggage and 5 people at average 90 mph ( i did go into 3 figures quite often) and in 90 degree heat. The round trip is 3500 miles in 2 weeks. My V7 STI Wagon is running 333bhp and if i believe what i read in any of the posts about high speed running, both cars should have blown up. Again reading posts is on here can be bad for my mental state.I think maybe we are underating these cars far too often.

The majority of cars will sit at 90mph all day and night and have no problems. My old 1994 Rover (in 2005) sat at 90mph for hours on end with no big issues at all. Plenty of cooler air coming in to the rad so no really a big deal...
I thought the problem with high speed runs was the fact that the airflow misses the Intercooler scoop. So the charge temp goes up. And this is why the My03 onwards have those Humongous scoopes on them to imrove high speed charge cooling.

I cruise at 90-100 with no problems. Except on a long run recently, I used nearly a quarter of a tank more on the return journey at 90-100 than I did on the outward one at 70-80.
Fuel economy really takes a hammering at the higher speeds.

i wonder if the police forces whove used imprezas over the years have had any problems after high-speed runs? they should know! my uk turbo has been driven at 120mph plus many times over the years and it doesnt seem to have suffered any ill effects from it.
