I know this may be hard to believe, but i currently have 11 points!! 6 of those come off in 2 years, the other 5 in 2 1/2 years. Just from being stupid really!! First 6 for doing 102 in a Saxo VTR (Gatso'd), the other for 52 in a 30 in a 3ltr Laguna (Lasertec video safety camera van). I got a standard NIP for the second one, but chose to fight it - LOST, and got 5 points instead of 3!! There's a lesson there somewhere..... hmm, that's right - DON'T SPEED (at least, don't get caught.... ). Wonder why i have a Snooper now......?

I'm 36 and counting, although i must admit, i should've grown out of the "102 in a Saxo" phase by about 30!! I just like going fast a bit too much - maybe i should get a micra instead........NAH!!

0 for a few years now - had 10 at one point when I was younger.....

While on the subject.... my mate is to appear in court for doing 101mph on the motorway - what do you reckon he will get. Any truth in the 30 over being an automatic ban? He's a bit gutted as it was December 12th and it's only just come through - sold the Scoob too since then and now driving an Astra lol

Most I've had at once is 8. Had 14 altogether over the years but currently 0.

I'm 35 btw.

March '88... 36 in a 30 - 3pts £30 fine (2am not a soul around - except plod - oops)
April '88... 118 on M27 - 3pts £40 fine (lot of grovelling at scene )
June '98... 38 in a 30 - 3pts £45 fine(back of a queue of traffic all doing same speed)
Jun '00... 52 in a 30 - 5pts £70/£30 costs (as above - They pulled out behind me both times and I didn't notice)

Usually the automatic ban for ton-up is true. But i pleaded on the following:

1. I am a self-employed window cleaner, and my only source of income necessitates being able to drive;
2. If i can't work, i can't pay my mortgage, and therefore could lose my home, which would cause "extreme hardship" (they DO take this into account);
3. I had my son living at home, plus i said he works with me, but can't drive yet, so it would leave him without a source of income.

I don't know your mates circumstances, but if he could include these PRINCIPLES in his defense, he MAY only get points and not a ban. It's got a lot to do with not only what he says, but HOW he puts it. Also it helped me to be honest and straight with the magistrate, polite, appear VERY sorry, and WEAR A SUIT!! They hate it when people turn up in jeans and sweatshirt, they think its disrespectful!! Hope this will help (although some are bound to disagree.....) Tell your mate to take it more carefully, and learn from my mistake - 11 points is a heavy weight for me to carry for 2 years!!

Also, check out this link, it might help your mate. He can register and post his own thread, unique to his circumstances - they give good advice!!

Hope this helps.

Must be lucky I guess. Did have three a few years back for doing 97 on the M40, nice copper let me off with a fixed penalty and put it down as 95.

Talking

Currently got 11 on my licence, 3 come off in January 2006.
All for speeding but none in a dangerous area or at a dangerous time, its annoying that there is no difference between getting couaght speed in a high street, housing estate or past a school or on a by pass or out of town dual carraige way.

Jan 2002 SP30 3 points ( 1:30am past car showrooms and factory units )
Feb 2003 SP30 3 points ( 5:45am on wa to work out of town dual carraige way )
Dec 2004 SP30 5 points ( Sunday afternoon bypass to avoid christmas shoppers on high street, copper lurking on closed petrol station in an industrial area )

Mark.
