Question Knocklink activity...NO not Another one..!

This must have been done to death but...

I've just installed a KL and with it set on the highest sensitivity I bearly get a flicker on the first green (~6k)..!

The unit is working correctly and it flashes all 5 lights if I tap next to sensor, it's just with so little activity I feel it is a bit too good to be true.

05 WRX 7k miles Optimax and OB.

Cheers,

Jason

It's ok mate, a healthy std engine shouldn't det at all and certainly not on good quality petrol - if that's what the KL is telling you, it shouldn't be hard to believe-! Methinks you've been taken in by the whole chocolate engine thing on here!!

Just out of curiosity, why the OB on a UK car when you're running it on Optimax?

Bear in mind the lights aren't necessarily det, and a gradual increase in the level is ok as it will be picking up engine noise.

det will be shown as 'spikes', like jumping from top green to big red if that makes sense.

provided you've tested it's working, as you mentioned, and its on the block rather than the heads (as the sensor was on the 2.5 I just acquired) then all is ok- quiet running is perfectly acceptable

Now that's what I didn't know..! Thanks

NS04, Optimax + OB should be ~ 100 ron..! The higher the better regardless of engine.

Cheers,

Jason

If I were driving a 05 wrx, I would be just sticking with the Optimax, reason one would be that the OB is unneccesary cost as Optimax is more than enough and you are also reduce the life span of your plugs. Thats just what I think but every one to their own.

Jason, I would suggest you are wasting your money putting OB in unless youve had it re-mapped to take advantage of the higher octane.

Scooby 125 is quite right, Optimax on its own will be fine in an unmodded 05, and tbh you really shouldn't need a knocklink.

Whilst you don't need a remap to take account of the higher octane, as the self-learn ecu will adapt and give slightly more advance, you probably won't even notice the difference in performance.

This is all prep for remap next month, along with full decat, panel filter and sti tmic.

I'm looking to follow Andy F's project 03 WRX. That'll do me fine
