Default Car idling at 1500RPM from cold

As title - It idles at 1500RPM as soon as it is started - I am sure it used to then settle within about 5 seconds back down but now it seems to stay there for a good couple of minutes while driving which I am almost certain it never used to.

Other than that it seems ok.

Any ideas? Oh yeah I put a new MAF on last week - Would I need to reset the ECU?

You've hit the nail on the head there, yes you will (though it will eventually correct itself). Just leave the battery disconnected overnight, though it should reset within an hour or so.

The car ran very well for about two days though - This is why I did not connect the two. Will try the reset later on and see if it improves.

Thanks

Forgot to mention it seemed to run fine for about 200 miles since the MAF change - Would the ECU not have re-learnt by now?

Thanks again.

What MY is it mate?

You can't just disconnect the battery if it's a 94 like mine there is a procedure in which to do it in.Easy enough and you don't disconect the battery.

Its a MY00 - Did the plug connection to reset the ECU last night and this morning it still revvedd to 1500RPM - Any ideas. IS this a problem or normal cos I cant really remember. What could it be?? Anyone got any ideas? It seems to run fine even when cold and revving high.

Mine has done this from new, its 8 yeas old now. There is nothing wrong, its a fast idle/ choke effect while the car is cold, mine drops in revs to its idle of about 800-900 rpm after a couple of minutes.

Well maybe it has done this since I had it - I just didnt think it had though as you move in slow moving traffic when you let the clutch out the revs go up if you know what I mean. That is fair enough - Glad it is not just mine then.

Thanks a lot.

Mine is also at 1.5 k at first start in the morning, but just after a 2-4 minutes, after I start to drive it it is settled down at around 500-600. It did that from day one, but in the traffic it never revved up.
My old pug used to do this for longer when it didn't like the fuel, sometimes even after 1 hour of driving it didn't go below 1.5 k. Good fuel+injector cleaner used to sort that out

If its idling at that speed don't start it You'll wreck it. If you mean 500 to 800 thats something completely different. Try the MAF test as a failing MAF will evidence itself through uneven idling
