Sorry to post this here but time is short so I thought I would let you all know...

This Saturday there is a fantastic day organised in Bishop's Waltham, Hampshire...

There are going to be a bunch of rally cars there being driven by Pentti Airikkala (ex British Champion and World Rally Driver) and myself (and hopefully a few others).

Pentti will be giving VIP coaching on left foot braking and there will be ample opportunity to get hammered round the rally stage in all manner of rally cars (including my cosser, and (i have been told) a scoob WRC).

It should be a really good petrol head day out, and costs 2 quid to get in. £20 for a rally ride through the stage (although give me a shout and if I can, I will ). If you want a corporate ticket at £250 you get rally driving tuition (although there are only a few of these tickets left, if any).

There is also quad biking for £1.50!

I'm not actually organising this and have no idea what it will actually be like, but it sounds like a great laugh.

Not sure how long the cossie will last though . We're combining this with a shake down (first one since John Felstead fitted the new fuel system), so we kind of expect to have a few problems.

Looking forward to it though.

Depends...rather longer if you're driving a Justy 1.3 courtesy car...sounds interesting but I don't know if I can take the humiliation!

 

from chelsea, london to bishop's waltham is about 76 miles. should take you about 1.5 to 2 hours, no sweat even on the original 4x4 justy!

The full days tution tickets went a long time ago apparently as there were only 8 up for grabs, tuition in the morning and racing in the afternoon.
I also believe that the day is a fund raiser for the Conservative party!
Last time I heard (yesterday) Richard Burns was going to be in attendance.
How do I know?
A friend is organising it and has got me a full days ticket.

 

well ian, your friend obviously hasn't got a clue as ricky burnup is in cyprus driving an impreza WRC all weekend, its kind off his day job!! LOL

It would of been a lot better if the other rally cars had turned up as they said they would. Speaking to Miles Johnston (Pug 306) there should have been at least been about 15 cars there but they couldn't be bothered to turn up!
Good job done by Ti Motorsport keeping things alive and running until 17.30, plus helping some others out in their road cars who thought they could take their road cars round the second course.

 

I only managed to get there towards the end, but I thought it was a good opportunity for anyone wanting to experience being driven in a rally car and also take their own car round the track if they so wished. All done in a farmer's recently harvested wheat field.

Simon, don't feel too bad about it, the concept was a good one. I arrived a bit late, but I think there were three rally cars when I got there (may have been more earlier?). Miles Johnston was certainly kept busy taking people round the circuit.

Only saw the 4 scoobies there all day, but as I didnt see who got out of them, I couldn't speak to you!
As I said earlier, the day was a fund raiser for the local tories (nothing to do with me!) and was a one off. As stated, Miles Johnston was there as was Nik Kershaw in his Seat Ibiza. There was a Pug 205 in action earlier on but packed in when the front n/s wheel sheered off in the dip with my brother in it!
Brave people who took their car on the course!
John, not everyone follows the rally closely, so it was an easy enough mistake to make. Penti Arrikola (sp?) was there all day giving tution in his dual control V6 Mondeo. Interesting to see the T190 Focus from Hendy ford there.
Just out of interest, you should have seen the course at 9am before it was churned up!, Just flattened stubble and was like ice.

 

what a shame.

I feel dreadful now, although I have to say I can only just stand up, let alone throw a rally car around.

I left a couple of messages for the organiser but haven't had a call back as yet.

How many cars turned up in the end?

I Just got off the phone with Paul Curson (organiser of the event).

He was indeed let down very badly.

Apparently there were 15 cars that were suposed to be coming which let him down in the last week.

Some just didn't turn up without even a phone call, others got their service crew to phone for them! What a s poor show.

Sounds as though it was a great day though (apart from that).

He is grateful to everyone who attended from scoobynet and was really sorry for everyone that the subaru didn't turn up. (The service van broke down on the motorway. He went back for another van. By the time he got back his rally car had been totally vandalised, including spoilers taken, wing mirrors, etc. ).

He has offered to assist in the setting up of a rally X day we are looking at running for scoobynet members

I got there about 2:45. I could tell by the content of the car park that it was more tories than petrolheads. No Subarus (except mine)! By that time only two rallycars and no sign of Pentti. Could have done with Simon de B.

The Focus 190 looked nice, as did the Racing Puma (first time I'd seen either in the flesh), but the two people from Hendry's didn't exactly seem eager to invite me to get acquainted with the cars. Maybe it was my Subaru WRC t-shirt .I got the impression I'd crashed their private conversation so I buggered off back to my Scooby and did some slides on my way back down the field.

I'd be up for some rally x if anyone's organising it.

where were you looking, I didnt leave till the end and there were 2 scoobies then that had been there all day, inc mine and Pentti was there till the end. Thought they wouldn't have been hard to spot amongst all the Range rovers and mercs
If you havent seen him lately then you might not have recognised him, I think his crashes are catching up with him. Top bloke though, very funny.
