Question

I was planning on buying a Bel 990 International. They are £350 in http:\www.beldirect.co.uk

Has anyone found any other retailers for this type of detector ?

Gary.

easy find some one thats going to the USA and ask them to birng you back a Valentine 1, lot less than £300 and came out top (above the 990) in a recentish EVO test.

And while they are over there ask them to spend the money you are saving on a laser jammer!! Reviewd and worked well same issue!! Will scan report if i can find it

I managed to pick up a Whistler detector whilst in Tenerife on a nightstop, cost about £75. Unit was very good until I met the French Gendarmerie whilst on holiday who a) confiscated it and b) fined me £500 for having it. On the spot.
States is also a good source for 'em.

Definately any island in the canaries! Saw a Whistler unit for around 40 quid. I'm going back for a week in December so I'll bring home a suitcase full

Question

Never heard of the 'Whistler' is it any good? I'm off to the canaries myself soon what would be the best buy and what are the pitfalls? Anybody know any sites where I can check this out?

Mmmm. Got to be careful with these things. In the EVO test above (and several others I've read), most detectors weren't worth the silicon they're made of. Only Valentine 1 and one of the Bells (if I remember correctly) were reliable.

I don't have the original article, but I think that Radar Direct reproduces bits of it occasionally in their catalogue (enquiries@radardirect.co.uk).
