A few type r questions!
Hi everyone, sorry if these have been asked before. I am currently deciding between an sti 4 door and a type r.The type r wins hands down for me so far as in that i like the looks of the 2 door shell and the DCCD sounds just what i need to have some serious fun(being used to rwd cars it would appear that the DCCD would change the cars handling more to my taste!).Right, now to the questions,How bad are the type r's for cruising along at say 80mph compared to an sti? Do the sti's and typer r's share many common components? How hard is it to source specialist parts for them e.g body pannel's etc?
thanks for the help

Regarding the gearing, the type R has shorter gearing. So crusing at 80mph in 5th is ~4000rpm, compaired to ~3250rpm for the STi. Not really that bad.
They share almost all mechanical parts (except transmission) e.g. engine, front brakes (rears are different), etc.
The DCCD transmission makes a massive difference to the handling, far superiour to the normal STi cars. You need to be ready to control the car, power over-steer at 70mph in the wet gets the adrenilin flowing

I have to agree with Normski on that one, I've just sold my Type R and the handling on them is very hairy!
If your used to rear wheel drive just leave the diff wound back all the time and I promise you'll have a very happy **** end!
Depending on where your based, for parts servicing and body work, I'd definetly recomend Scooby Clinic in Chesterfield...
As for motorway driving, I fount the Type R just about the same as a normal STi.

get a type r!ive had mine for 4 weeks.compared to my wrx it is a totally superior car.i find the handling very predictable.hardly any understeer compared to my wrx.just working out the dccd and it makes a big difference to the way the car handles.i drive it too work every day about 40 miles.makes going too work not so bad.if you buy one you wont regret it!just remember to use octane booster on every fill up.

Some info about my Type R here if you're interested http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=425180 .
You should definately consider one. Then get booked in at powerstation for proper suspension setup, and at BRD for a Tek3.
