Default STI 8 dash,do the clocks sweep???

on a sti 8 when turning the ignition on ,do the needles on the clocks do a full sweep right round and back again?

Definitely only JDMs...

But, if you're that worried about 'sweeping needles', buy a new Legacy.... What's more, the "feature" can be disabled if you really want....

Not on STi8 as that's an 02MY, but STi9 is a different story if it's JDM

If I understand it correctly, there were SIX examples of the STi marque throughout the "classic" era of the Impreza. When the Bugeye arrived there was no STi for a while, and the model was only on sale for 2 years with only one STi variant, hence why people refer to it as the SEVEN. Although, logically speaking, it was the FIRST official UK STi, so should really be refered to as the STi1 Type UK That would be really confusing, so people simple followed on from the 6. When the Bug was replaced by the Blob, being an updated design, both cosmetically and mechanically it seemed sensible then to refer to this as the EIGHT. And systematically, apart from a square bootlock in 2004, the next major revision was the 2005 model with the revised geometry which is now commonly refered to as the NINE. The naming makes sense to most people, and being as Subaru themselves have stopped using the numbering system, it exists only in coloquial debate on enthusiasts forums such as this, and apart from the occaisional pedant is generally accepted as I described. We all usually know full well what people mean, and they aren't going to stop using it no matter how much anyone kicks and screams, so why not get used to it

Like a mark5 escort is actually a mark 4....The facelifted Mark 3 was still called the Mark 3....but everyone decided to call it the Mark 4. Then the "real" Mark 4 came along, so thus it was nicknamed the Mark 5.

Technically a Mark 6 doesn't exist, that is really a Mark 5

I hope you are all following this

And people ask why dealers need VIN numbers to get the right parts

Nah it would be a MK8 as were on the third gen of focus(original/facelift/then the new one)

Or would that make it MK9

But in Ford terms Mk1, Mk2, Mk3 were actually defined by a completely different bodyshell (BIW), not normally just by a facelift of which there are normally many during a model cycle.

That would mean we would be on a Mk2 Impreza............


Corradoboy has pointed out where the confusion starts in that there WAS an STi for 01MY but it was JDM only but to be fair, so were all the previous models. The changes for 02MY were bigger than the changes between 99 & 00MY STi's and STi used a different number for those (STi Version 5 & 6) so if you were to be still using a number system 01 & 02MY would therefore be numbered differently. Similarly 03 & 04MY DID have many changes and weren't confined to the different bootlock, suspension changes being obvious ones.

In summary, why do you think we call the 05MY Group N car an N11? So everyone undertands what it is an there's no confusion............

i thought the confusion was just withe the mk6/7? The mk5 was the cosworth shape, then it changed to what is known as mk5b (grill in bonnet, round rear clusters in bootlid, different wings) and then in 1996 changed to the mk6 (round headlights. Yet, the mk5b and the mk6 share more in common then the mk5 and mk5b so its allways been my thinking that it really should have been mk5, mk6 mk6b. But for arguements sake most people just call them mk5,6,7 :P

and why dont people simply call them by their MY because there cannot be any confusion? unless you got an 05 on a 54 plate :P

the dials sweep because of the lan and can system which the legacys have and rumour has it the 06my impreza will have it as well.
