Default Newbie, 02 STi - What fuel?

Finally got the STi late lastnight and its gonna need filling up this morning. The handbook doesn't seem to relate to the STi model from what i can see in it.

Whats the minimum fuel this car can take? 97, 98 ? I would guess it cant run on 95 is that right?

Thanks.

I should of said is a STi Type UK if that makes a difference??

Optimax

You will notice a lack of power if you run it on 95

Thanks. I do intend on running on the best stuff i can find but living out in the sticks optimax is going to be difficult for every refill. Just wondered what the minimum safe RON is. Probably says on the fuel cap but didnt get back till late and not been out to check yet

Type UK's run absolutely fine on 95, as is required for them to sell them here. 98 a bonus and will run that bit better, but not as much as you'd be led to believe by reading scoobynet all day.

So if you buy a scoob from a dealer in the Uk and it was registered here... i.e not an import (Mine is a MY01 - bug eye) You dont need to run it on Optimax?

Everyone i know tells me i should - but at 9p per litre more!!

No you don't, but you should really run it on super though, it'll go much better than normal unleaded.

Optimax mate! It's a performance car, you get out what you put in!!

Tescos 99RON is also winning friends. Supposedly even higher Octane rating than Optimax, not sure if it has the same detergents thoough, and it's very rare at the moment!!

Alot of replies didn't answer your question.

Assuming its a UK car you CAN run 95 RON normal unleaded without problems.

What others here are getting at is that the car performs better on higher octane fuel such as optimax and super unleaded etc.

It is therefore your choice

I stuck some 97 in today as it was running on fumes. Still forgot to look at the fuel cap lol.

I rang the dealer who said 95 is fine as its a UK STi but could use anything higher and might notice a bit of improvement, might not.

So is it really that much more noticeable using 97/Optimax over 95? I tried it in the CTR (boo hiss lol) and never made the slightest of difference IMO but obviously i know nothing about Scoobys yet

So much to read on this forum but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information.

to quote from my02 handbook ( inside back cover )

WRX STI version
Use only unleaded gasoline. the use of unleaded gasoline with 98 octane or higher is recomended. if gasoline with 98 octane or higher is not available, unleaded gasoline with 95 octane or higher may be used.

ppp cetificate states- we recomend you continue to use 97 ron super unleaded.
