Anyone got any realistic times of a UK 2000 turbo 4 door, 5 speed??

On my first ever 0-60 try, I got 8.3 secs....I recon I can shave a second off that easy with a practice or two, I didnt dunp the clutch very hard. does that sound about right?

the quoted figure is 6.5 secs I think. anyone actually managed this? I dont think my car is capable without wrecking the clutch!!

LOL, I think you may be underestimating your car mate!!

6.5 was a bit of a joke TBH. I think Subaru probably knew it to, but kept it at that for insurance reasons! Ever magazine that has tested the MY99/00 has recorded a 0-60 time of the mid fives.

You should easily be able to acheive the quoted mid 6 figure without wrecking your clutch! Don't dump it at all- modulate the throttle against the clutch such that the revs remain at about 3.5k and instant slingshot take off. Alternatively, let the cluth out fully at low revs and then plant the accelerator. Brief pause then........whoa!!!!!!! Great fun and won't hurt your clutch!

Well mine is a MY98. I cant see any conceivable way it would get to 6.5 secs though!! just doesnt seem to be enough power there!! I'll keep practicing though

Are you sure your car is ok mate? Could your clutch be slipping? In first and second gear the car should feel very strong indeed! It really doesn' require any effort at all to get a sub 7secs to 60 time.

I'm worried the car is a bit buggered actually.....I've managed much faster times in my mr2 without trying, running similar kind of power.

the clutch seems OK, but the turbo seems to take for ever to spool up. are all UK scoobies like that?

Get it on a RR mate, something must be amiss!!

On a std TD04 in a car with its cats in place, you'll hear the turbo starting at about 2.5k rpm, it gets serious at 3k ish and is really blowing at 3.5k. Keept it at 3.5k at launch and it's goodbye to pretty much anything you can buy for sensible money!

I've checked the power. seem to be getting around 153bhp at the wheels. how much loss is there through the transmission?

..... Sounds like you need to get it looked at then doesn't it ? if you can't get it to 60 below 8.5 seconds I'ld agree it sounds 'buggered ' to me , has anybody you know got one you can compare it with ?

 

I'll have a look tonight I'm fairly new to scoobies, but a fairly competent mechanic.....anything specific to look out for that might cause power loss?

I don't know, but as I said, you should be able to produce sub 7secs to 60 comfortably. With a bit of skill and practice, you'll be hovering around the 6 mark and if you don't like your clutch, you could even reproduce the magazine's figures!

Get it checked.

with only an exhaust change, back in the day, stef managed a 4.8 0-60 on a uk turbo.

I would check for leaks.

60bhp of transmission loss is actually quite low, I guess it depends on the rollers. I would expect anywhere between 80 and 100.

Panic over I just did a 6.8sec to 60 in the wet. car was snaking around on the road - so not a good start, but much better! must of had a mis-reading before!

There ya go! Should be able to get that down to 6 or under depending on how brutal you are in the dry!

A G-Tech performance meter pro. they actually appear to be quite acurate based on mates runs on the strip and then runs with this unit..

Foolish i know but it sure shocked him when i shot off He was behind me and went to overtake me..He was so quick to react to what i did that he just wheelyed right next to my window then by the time i was topping 2nd he was already well ahead of me! They are sooooo bloody quick bikes : O

I have a Uk turbo my99 standard and have had under 6 secs before no problem..I know alot of folk on here diss them but it is my first scoob and I love it...!

 

Anyone who "disses" (sp?) a classic UK Turbo is being a muppet! If they're not your cup of tea, then fine -it'd be a boring world if we all liked the same thing! However, there is no denying their ability. We're 10 years on from the first turbo hitting the UK shores and the affordable performance genre has only recently caught up substantially. Of all the current Super Gtis, there isn't one that can match a classic to 60, or do any better in more relevant the 30-70mph increment. Not bad for a 10 year old car. When it comes to the twisties, there still isn't much to beat the Scooby, and if its raining, it's advantage Scooby all the way! Then you have the SOUND, the reliability, the modification potential, the community and -of course- a certain kudos from the links to WRC.

They don't have the performance end of the market to themselves as they once did, but be in no doubt, they are still very capable, very fast cars!

Respect is due!!

 

why stop at 4.5k
get some optimax in and find out where that rev limiter is
