Looks mint.
It has electric windows and aircon, the basic RA didnt have either of these.
Added as options i guess.
Cheque the vin plate to be sure it is an RA.
It does look like it is,as it has no side skirts either.
Also look here http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm
The 3 guages in the centre consul are also additions as is the steering wheel, which looks very nice.

Defenitly worth a look

The steering wheel is the WRX Nardi Torino though - I thought all WRXs had this as standard, mine has?

Gearknob and steering wheel should have red stitching for an STI (I think), those ones look like regular WRX ones. The 7500rpm redline would suggest it's an (early) STI though.

What are the switches on the drivers side door trim?

Does it have DCCD? Can't quite see if the bottom green light on the dash is lit, and can't see the roller wheel by the handbrake.

Looks nice though, can you quote the model code, engine code and transmission code from the VIN plate?

Switches on drivers door are electric window switches. The 5th one is to lock the rears, so that the rear passengers can't operate them.

Hi

I think the car you are looking at is from Goodmayes Motors (Thurrock).

I looked at this same car but when I was assessing it it was up at £6995... so you are getting a bit of a bargain.

But... The car just wasn't what I was after. Could never make out if it was an RA, WRX or STI RA.

It just had too many extras to be an RA for me and didnt quite have the bits to be an STI.

Car looks in very good condition thought and price is very good too.

Get the model number if you can and look on SIDC.

Hi

Some VERY early STi were not red top engines. But what confused me about this car was the fact that as standard if it was an STi RA then It should have an I/C Spray, DCCD, and a roof vent as a minimum.

Also to note according to my sources, the 95 STi only cam ein RA form... but this looks neither, more like a WRX to me... as it is missing standard STi RA parts e.g roof vent.

I think the 95 STi RA was the only early model with the dccd and I/c spray, and i believe the same with later STi RA's, my Sti Ver 3 doesnt have these but i seen STi Ra Version 3's with these on, then i think the Type R's had them in 97

Hi mate

I had a 96 STi RA. The idea behind the RA (Race Altered) was that it was sold has a very race-focused car, and has such was sold without many of the standard WRX features to save weight. Many had Air Con, but not Climate Control. Side skirts, fog lights, electric windows, rear wiper, ABS, and most of the sound-deadening material was removed.
You did however get a Group N gearbox, providing ferocious acceleration, and equally devastating consumption!

Mine didn't have a red manifold, but did have the I/C spray, DCCD, and roof vent.

The model code for a 95 WRX STI RA made between Oct 94 and Aug 95 is GC8C47D. Non-STI WRX RA's also had this number.

For cars made between Aug 95 and Aug 96, it's GC8C4DD for WRX STI RA, and WRX STI RA V-limited. Non STI RA's were GC8C47D.

Non-STI's were slightly less powerful, at 260PS instead of 275, but I don't know what options were available that differed them from STI's.

Hope that hasn't baffled you too much!

Regards
Mart

Skyrunner has summed it up exactly so if you follow his summary you should know what kind of car it is. If it doesnt have a rood vent then it is not a 95 sti ra as all came with sun roofs. The only true way is by the model code.

that is a wrx RA (not sti)so wont have sti bits. most garages try to fool people. the vin plate should read GC8C47D they are 260bhp. it is a rare car and 6k is about average for that car with that mileage. i wouldnt buy that though i would buy an sti type ra. email me if you want to know anything as i have a v limited sti RA

Try contacting "Chesire Cat" on SIDC or just post up about '95 STi-RA's and he'll help you.

During the test drive check the revs are 4,000 at 80 ish, some RA's are very low geared with 4,000 revs being only 72 ish.

Definatley the WRX RA not STI due to the lack of a roof vent
