I have one in my STi5, you need the box, prop and rear diff if not already a 3.9. (thats for a JDM spec box). The 5 speed flywheel etc will all fit however if you use a six speed flywheel to get the larger clutch you need to change the starter motor.

Will any other starters fit, or can you modify the 5sp one to fit the 6sp flywheel?

Thumbs up

I have one fitted to my 94wrx. Got the box(jap spec), prop and diff from API and had it fitted at my local garage. £2200 fitted. Had to slightly modify rear diff mounts, and machine the box to allow fitment of original starter. Only real complaint is I dont need to lift to put in reverse! so untill you get used to it, its easy to go straight past 5th!

Needs adjusting then.....

Unless the jap spec ones are different reverse mechanism to UK

I have a six speed on my 99 RB5. Its a doddle to fit.
All you need is a gearbox from a UK spec STI 7 or 8 and a propshaft from a classic automatic WRX as its 60mm shorter. If you have a UK car and source a UK STI 7/8 gear box then forget about all this ****e about swapping driveshafts. This only needs to be done if your swapping jap spec stuff.

But mine really was a doddle.

Hope that helps,

Daz

Yeah, but I want to use the larger flywheel & clutch from the STi 8 with a classic starter motor.

At the time of having mine done I had a RCMS Lightweight flywheel and an AP racing clutch fitted. The car made 399bhp with 382ft/lbs shortly afterwards. Haven't had any problems yet.

For installing a 6 speed on 03WRX,

If you want to buy and use the rear suretrack diff of the STi 8 too, do you have then to buy the rear drive shafts?
And if yes, will the STi driveshafts fit in the rear WRX housings?

Thanks,

Christos
