Default odd noise

Morning all, MY97 UK turbo
When I slip the car into 5th gear at between 50 - 70 mph I get a moderate to high pitched noise somewhere from the engine (sorry can't be more specific), but it is only when on the throttle. Take my foot off the gas and it goes.
Does not occur in any other gear. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

anyone got an answer for this? I have had it for two years, am trying to get it sorted under warranty. They have already changed the bearings in the centre diff and rear diff but it is still there. Back in tomorrow but ideas would be well received

Cheers

RB5_180 Have sent pm.
To summarize for benefit of any else interested: I talked to Len at Subaru4u and he though it might be down to the exhaust gasses leaving the turbo because it only hapenned when under load. It is not your usual turbo whistle though.
Still exactly the same, not got any worse.

Main dealer has run the car on ramps and can hear it in the drivetrain. They were convinced it was the rear diff but changing all the bearings in this made no difference. With the work they have done on the gearbox and diff I can now pick it up in neutral too which is very strange.

Car is currently left with main dealer until they find a solution....hopefully...
