Question Type 25

Hello!

I currently own an MY02 STI PPP and am thinking about a new car - Litchfields Type 25. I would like to know from anyone thats driven or owns one, how much of a difference in handling and performance there is? Are they easy to live with on a daily basis?

Any comments would be gratefully received!

Used to have a P1, now a T25, I think the first 05. By comparison the P1 was a bit of sofa - very comfortable, quite quick, always that slow turn in with predictable understeer. T25 much tighter, bigger spread of power (and more of it). Increase in torque very noticeable. Suspension quite uncomfortable on anything but a snooker table surface, until you start to really motor and then it is quite outstanding - worth 100bhp. Love them or hate them the Bridgestones, with inflexible sidewalls, tell you everything thats going on. The turn in is amazing for a Scoob and grip brilliant in the dry to predictable and great fun in the wet and anyway you can play with the DCCD to sort things out in the wet. All plusses apart from an occasionally noisy rear diff which I am beginning to think is unique to my car.

All in all I just love it and although the engine pumps out more power it is the suspension that does it for me.

Never been in one, but would'nt touch one as experience with them is limited ie engine reliabilty etc etc

A nice constructive post...we love our T25, but what ever you do don't go for a test drive as your cheque book will be lightened considerably. Our car is no.17 and there have been a few more since....has anyone had any bad experiences !!!!!!!!!!.

I test drove a car with the complete T25 handling pack on today and I have to say I was impressed with it.

The suspension was actually a better ride quality than my standard MY03 Type UK STi is.

Steve - I suggest you book a test drive and make your own mind up.

I think my post is misunderstood. I never said that the car does'nt go/handle well. My concern would be a lack of experience with the car. I think that point might be proven a little by the fact that only two people so far have posted that they own one

I also did'nt say it was'nt reliable, just pointing out that it has'nt been around long enough to say one way or the other.

I would'nt want to spend £30ish k and be a guinea pig

For all that own one I wish you happy motoring.

I think you have to bear in mind that some people may one one but don't necessarily want to advertise the fact on a public forum. As for how long they've been around, the first one came out around a year ago AFAIK, and that followed a development period, so they have had a fair few miles on them. Given that both Iain Litchfield and Powerstation have good reputations that they will want to guard jealously it strikes me that it is a safe buy.

Last time I asked there were due to be well over 30 on the road, so I think we would have heard something if there were inherent problems with them.

If you buy one now you will benefit from the general handling improvements brought in with the MY05cars, and when you add the ASTs the ride and handling combination is outstanding.

Gets my vote.

I have an MY03 STi PPP and test drove a T25 last year.

The difference is astounding the T25 is a much more complete package.

If I had the money I would swap without a moment's hesitation

No rear diff noises in nearly 3000 miles, but mine is based on the Spec C if that makes any difference???????

Hiya.

Firstly not sure I agree that PS has such a great reputation.
I d'ont think 30 on the road(if thats accurate) is enough to ensure that we would have heard something if there was a problem. You yourself said people may not want to advertise.
There was a post on here recently about some going bang, I must say though that is pure heresay not facts.

My only real point was that its a bit of an unknown quantity, not that its a bad car.

I think the 2.5 mildly tuned in the way that PS do is infinately more reliable than what our old friend at Scoobysport was doing to the 2.0 cars. Things have moved on quite a lot and I don't think you would have any issues buying and running one.

Sammy, I'm deffo up your way after Easter, looking forward to seeing the T25 in the flesh.

Deep, if I was a doctor like you I would buy a T25, but my humble profession prevents me from such expenditure.

STi long gone, had 2 more Subaru's since then, both Legacy's, doubt I'd go back to an Impreza now unless I could afford one for the weekend.

LOL, you aren't exactly the bravest passenger though are you deep

As for the t25, its been tested for thousands of miles on various tracks, counties, countries and continents at levels way past what any 'normal' driver would achieve.

It would be commercial suicide to release such a comprehensively modified car without doing so.

Look how many people spend money on Ruf Porsche etc.

simplesteve, you also wanted to know how they are to live with. With all that torque and a slick gearbox it doesn't come any better.

Oh, they're not a £30k car, they're a £35k car. AFAIK it's other 2.5 conversions that have had problems, not the Type 25 which as G00ner says, is in a fairly mild state of tune.

Deep, I'd love to read the thread about a customer Type 25 that went bang as it must of been one of Powerstations special self fixing engines lol We've had no engine problems with any of our customer cars.

I know Deep wasn't knocking the T25, I think he meant that it's a lot of money if anything went bang and that because it's only sold in small numbers it wouldn't be as well developed/tested as say a WR1/STi etc.

There's a world of difference between being one of the first fully decatted/remapped 02 STi's (Me and Deep) and the T25, I always had a feeling in the back of my mind that one day my engine would go pop as it all seemed a little bit trial and error. I think Deeps was lighting up reds on the KL and mine was getting smokey/rattly.

Like I said things have moved on a lot in 3 years, that 2.5 producing 350ish (legally) and my old smoker puffing out 340ish (illegally), I know who I'd rather tune my car if I was to buy another.
