Default MY03 STi starting problems - anyone fixed?

anyone with the MY03 (and later, IIRC) STi starting problem ever get a fix from Subaru??

my 03 had this from new, and never got fixed before I traded in - just wondered if anyones has been??

wonder if any of the new cars have this 'characteristic' or if its been sorted on the new models?

Andy.

Is this the one where the car caughs in to life when the temperature is low, and if it doesn't start first time it can be a pig to start afterwards?

This was common on the MY02STIs, but I had a PPP fitted last year on mine which appears to have completely fixed it.

I think I heard most peoples problems with flat batteries on the MY03's were down to the Tracker not functioning properly. Didn't go into "sleep" mode and drained the battery.

Luckily I haven't had that problem with mine yet.

no, not the flat battery one. (had that too!)

the one where it splutters to life - had my car at the delaers, but never fixed.

Subaru Japan were (apparently ) looking into this one.

had PPP fitted, but no difference.

anyone fixed?

Happens to me on rare occasions. Not enough of a problem to take it back as I have a morbid distrust of garage mechanics! I tend to live by the the adige "tell me what it is and I'll fix it myself"

I believe a few STi MY02-04's have had simular Problems and as stated adding PPP has made absoulutely no difference

Seems that nothing more than a new set of 'Good' Plugs has cure a few. Apparently the Plugs insulation is breaking down (shorting out) when cold but works fine once warm IIRC

important please don't consider this definative 100% cure for ALL starting woes But maybe worth mentioning to Dealer if he's tried everthing else

IMHO

Changed my plugs to Blitz iridiums - Sometimes does it on these as well as the originals!

when cold it can really struggle to start, coughs, tires to catch, doesnt then really takes about 5-6 turns on the starter motor to finally catch.

yep, thats it.
still no real cure then.

seems a shame that Subaru cant sort this, as its pretty important to be able to start the car, without the embarrasing spluttering.
