Smile New ownner

I have just traded my golf 4 motion in and picked up my 52 plate UK WRX today and i don't miss the golf one bit!
Impreza is way better.

I have a question to ask :

1. Is it ok to use standard unleaded or do i have to use Shell Optimax all the time ?

One other thing.
Whilst on its maiden voyage in my hands i passed another scooby and the driver
gave me a wave, is this the norm when passing fellow scooby owners.
Only other time i have experienced this is when i was a biker.

Yes they all wave, don't know why, (must all be ex biker's), oh yes welcome. As for the petrol, you should use optimax or super unleaded, otherwise you won't get the full performance from the engine, and it'll probably pink or knock. Shaun.

Welcome

Optimax/SL/Ultimate is recommended, but not really essential in an un-mod'd WRX. It will run better on the good stuff especially if you plan to drive it correctly

Not everyone waves but they bl00dy well should

What colour did you get?

My old wrx gave better mpg whilst running on super unleaded.

I always wave to other Scoobies!

You won't notice the car pinking if you use NUL as opposed to SUL or Optimax, as the ECU will retard the ignition to compensate for the lower octane rating.

However, using 97 RON SUL or 98+ Optimax will enable more advance to be run, and hence offer performance benefits as well as slightly lower (ie better) fuel consumption. Broadly, this negates the extra cost of using more expensive fuel.

All AFAIK, IMHO, etc....
