hello im thinking about posssibly selling my 2002 civic type-r somtime this year and maybe moving over to a scooby, im 23, i have 5 years ncb, on my type-r and 2 years on my pug 306 td, id be looking to spend around 15k on a scoob, what sort would be best to look for, i quite like the bug eyed version, would i be able to get insured for a at a reasonable price, any usefull information would be great,

standard 215bhp uk turbo will be cheaper to insure than a grey import. Trouble is grey imports tend to have a better spec and more power for the same money.

 

15K should get you an almost new 03-04 WRX + PPP or a 2-3 year old STi (bug-eye)

 

16K will get you a brand new UK spec Euro Import WRX, OTR and with a Cat 1 alarm fitted. I bought mine when I was 23, although I turned 24 last month, and I'm paying under a K for insurance with 3 years NCB, 2.5 years previous without a claim but not as a lead driver on a policy, and with regular use of a company car too.

Hi, I changed from a CTR to a MY00 classic. The Scoob is a quicker point to point car and fair bit quicker than the CTR and I love every minute of it. Especially the turbo rush and the torque, plus its easily turnable Im running 295 bhp and it didn't break the bank by any stretch of the imagination. Both cars are different beasts and Im not even going to try and compare them as it would be unfair. The thing is though Im in the market again for CTR to go with the Scoob, there's just something about a 8500rpm screaming motor that I cant get out of my system.

I think you should go for a 03 wrx ppp. It'll be as quick as a standard STI and you'll know you made the rigth decision. If you go for a standard bug eye wrx then the difference between the CTR is minimal. End of the day, choice is yours!

get the youngest WRX you can get for the money. think about PPP spoiler etc later when you get a bit more poke. For a 23 year old your looking at under 1500 nika with tesco or churchill on a WRX

 

I want to know how any 23 year olds can get insured on a PPP'd WRX when most insurance companies won't even give me a quote (I'm 34 with 9 years ncb!). Short of lying, I don't see how that is possible.

I invite somebody to prove me wrong so I can get a quote from their insurance company !

Ian, there are loads for sale, look around as many as possible, do a lot of research. There are good genuine bargains to be had out there. But if in doubt when viewing any, walk away!

I bought a 52 plate WRX bugeye last November from a Trader. It had 1 owner from new and had 13K on the clock. Totally standard apart from a prodrive exhaust. The Trader had it priced at 13K, i drove away in the car after departning with 12K, i managed to haggle him down a grand! Its a buyers market at the moment.

Im 24 and have 5 years NCB, i took my insurance out with Tesco. It cost me £800 a year, but if your under 25 you are required to get a Tracker installed. So all together with tracker it set me back about £1500.

If you do buy a Subaru, you will have a huge grin on your face every time you drive it.... do it mate! You will love every minute of it.
Only down side is you become the most popular customer at your local petrol station.

 

I was driving around in a modified MY00 Turbo at 24, paying approx £1300 insurance. There are loads of people on here younger than that driving faster more expensive versions.

Have a rifle through the insurance section.

I am insured with Adrian Flux and was way back then. Try them and Liverpool & Victoria for starters.

 

i think you have to be 25 for liverpool vic but they are cheap mine is less than 500 quid

Im 23 and the P1 is an extra 100 on my £1050 fully comp policy. i have 4 yrs ncb

 

I'm 26 with a 96 STI RA V-ltd with cat 1 and tracker and it costs £700 just about with 4 yrs no-claim.

Norwich union mine goes through, give them a try.

 

See my post above - I have obtained quotes for P1's, STI and WRX ppp. The p1 would cost and additional £100 on to my current policy and an 03 sti would involve a rebate of 70? The standard wrx is and additional (circa) 90 and the wrx pp an additional 700! I understand that 'mods' (despite hours of arguing on the phone) such as ppp are much more expensive to insure than standard cars.

Hi Chaps - my first post actually, though, I was active on the Civic Type-R forum. I have just traded in my 18-mo old Type-R for a 6-month old WRX. HUGE DIFFERENCE!!! In the bone dry, there is not much in it - but, make roads in any way bumpy, or damp, and the my scoob is much quicker.

It's also quieter and blessed with a much better ride. Downsides? Well nothing touches the CTR's power delivery and gearbox. Also, the cabin is arguably of a slightly higher quality.

Oh, insurance, I'm paying £680 fully comp, with 6yrs NCB. I'm 37.

Would I go back to a CTR from a Scoob? No effin' way!!!

I was 23 when i got mine but just turned 24 as well, mine is an L reg and i'm paying 1300, but renewal in a few months!

 

thanks for the replys guys, looks like im going to have to do alot of researching, as there seems to be so many makes of scoob, i ant really got a clue about what the different models do ie performance wise, etc, im not looking to pay any more than 1k in insurance, so thats probaly what im going to have to look into first, im not going to make a rush decision about getting one, probaly be later this year anyway, would i be best going to a dealer for one or a private sale, as i could then part ex the type-r, as i cant really do with the hassel, timewasters,theives and test pilots you somtimes have do deal with on a private sale, but if you can get say an extra 1k ish on a private sale then it would maybe be worth it,
