Replacing tyres?

Hello all
just a quick on.... when replacing tyres do all 4 have to be replaced or can you replace just 2 at a time, I used to have a Cavalier 4x4 and becoz of the problems with the transfer box you were advised to replace all 4 at the same time, do you have to do that on the Impreza?

I waited for the origional tyres to wear before I went for a 17 inch wheel upgrade. All four tyres had just about had it, but the rears were better than the fronts. If you can afford it, go for replacing the lot.
