wondering if anyone can help me?. ive got a p1 with noisy tappets.is this a common thing .theres not one tappet in particular thats noisy.and its not anywhere near as noisy as a fiesta.just bit anoying.know they are not hydraulic on mine.does anyone else suffer from slightly noisy tappets,or is it worth having done?.also if davids about is it something expensive to do,and at 50000 on a p1 is it worth thinking about having more done???? thanks for any help ,pete

 

are you sure its the cam followers and not the injectors clicking? The injectors can be fairly loud.

If you do have followers that need adjusting its a fairly cumbersome job as you have to remove the camshafts to get to the shims.

 

Unusual to have noisyt tappets on a Version 5 [ P1 ] engine. Theye do get a bit ticky after a while but not rattly.

Try listening down a screwdriver, use the handle up against your ear and the blade on what you want to listen to and see if you can identify the noise.

If it is tappets it will be real hassle and cost few quid as it is correct to say the cams have to come out, after the covers and belt comes off, after the rad comes out and so on. Nastly, knuckle splitting job.

thanks for your advise guys,as you say ,i will have a listen with a screwdriver tommorow and let you know.as fopr injectors i will also listen could well just be a combination of the pair.thanks again for both your help.will keep you updated,if interested.

 

deffinatly tappet area.used stephascope today,not so concerned as like said a lot was injectors.but tappet noise being said ,theyh are all pretty even,thanks again all.
