Phase one cranks, to and including '98 have centre thrust.

Phase two cranks '99 on have end thrust.

The two won't mix.

Mark.

To answer your question, the cranks are interchangeable between versions 5,6,7,8,9 and 10. So there is no problem putting a new age or the very latest crank into a version 5 or 6.
Fitting a ver 5-10 to an earlier car is not a viable option.
Roger Clark Motorsport have had special light weight cranks manufactured that are universal. ie they will fit any of the engines ver1-10.
