last of the classics or 01/02 bug eye?
considering whether to get a low mileage looked after W/X reg Turbo 2000, or an 01/02 Bug-eye.
Have had an 01 WRX and 03STi in the past, but the missus has given up work for the kids, so need to economise - any thoughts?
I think the Turbo 2000 may be a bit more economical than the WRX, which would help, and have noticed a few nice ones about lately.
comments please...........

Not sure about economy, but the classics have more rawness and driver appeal about them. And of course they are much better looking cars

Did a thread myself a couple of weeks ago on virtually same subject and I have still not made my mind up. I already have a white X-plate classic sport and I am swayed into turbo ownership with the classic because they look like a scoob should and are by far the nicer of the impreza family IMO. But I have seen a white bugeye and there is something about it that I cant put my finger on, but build quality definately seems better
I very much doubt that. Perhaps a high mileage younger car vs. a low mileage old shape. You be a fool to pay more for an outdated base model, not that there's a lack of fools out there.

I own an oct 00 from new which had ppp fitted last june at 45k miles I find it a better drive than the bugs and blobs ive driven maybe its a weight thing.I also owned and sold a wr1 because sadly it attracted too much of the wrong kind of attention, Im not comparing the two its just the classic is less in your face yet still gets the adrenalin going especially on a cold dry day.I dont think i will ever sell it.Regards The Rat.

Tough choice - doubt you'll be disappointed in either. Speaking as someone who has owned both an MY00 and MY01, both cars have pros and cons.
MY00 in terms of its shape, is probably the most recognisable. In terms of build quality, the MY01 wins hands down. Interior wise there is no contest. MY01 is a bit heavier, but it also has a much stiffer chassis with virtually no bumpsteer. My MY01 certainly handled better than my MY00. Speed wise, I would say that an MY99 would be quicker - I found little or no difference between an MY00 and MY01.
Looks comes down to personal choice, but seeing as most people mod their cars in some way, this is not a big problem. I wasn't overly keen on the headlights, but I could see the advantages in the newer car overall. Morettes sorted the looks out and there are also numerous wheel / spoiler options you can choose. My car is currently for sale - have a look at the pics for some idea of what you can do.
I've enjoyed both cars. They have been reliable, fun and pretty quick

The classic is hardly a featherweight! People do get hung up on the weight issue, but that isn't the only difference. Adjusting the tyre pressures can help negate the effects of the extra weight - it isn't a huge problem - just different. Price wise, it is difficult to judge. If you look at the main dealers then the new shapes go for more money. Private ad wise it is more difficult to judge. There aren't many cars that you can do a direct comparison on so it would pay to shop around. My advice would be to go and test drive both and see what YOU prefer.

They are both outdated models
I am not saying its better and I am not saying its worse, just seems a lot people seem to be looking for my99 and my00 models. Simple supply and demand issue.
I had the same decision too make a month back, and ended up going for the Bugeye.
As others have said, I would suggest driving a few and pick the car you like the best.
