Why people are reluctant to wave.......
Some people on here wonder why some drivers don't wave, calling them grumpy, ignorant etc.
Being a waver myself I have had a couple of incidents whilst out and about in my scoob where I have waved and then immediately wished I hadn't. The first one was a while ago now. I was approaching a traffic island with a macdonalds perched on a corner right by it (people familiar with Redditch will know it). Anyway, another scoob comes off the island towards me with a youngish lad driving it, I stuck up my hand to wave and he just looked down his spotty nose at me and turned into macdonalds where he proceeded to rev the nuts off it through the drivethrough! Zorst roaring, dump valve dumping, tyres screeching, what a ***!! I was still waiting to pull out at the island and was cringing with embarrassment!
The second one was a nice looking mica red one which was obviously being driven quite hard but I didn't realise how hard until he came past me, again I waved, he waved back but him and his mate were laughing about it, little minds. As he came past I noticed his exhaust which I can only assume must have been homemade, it must have been 8" in diameter, looked totally ridiculous (Ok, I'm sounding old now). Anyway he was heading the same way as me along quite slow roads, junctions etc. and the way he drove (obviously showing off to his mate) was laughable. I was behind him in Grandad mode, I didn't want people to think that we were on some sort of 'crooooz'. I couldn't distance myself enough from him. *** no.2!!
Obviously chavish behaviour of the lowest order, but there were no caps on show, so it wasn't immediately obvious.
After these deeply scarring incidents I am very careful who I wave to now, as are plenty of other decent and friendly scoob owners I'll bet!
Paranoia rules.

I always wave to fellow scoobie drivers
But with the prices falling on early models now to a couple of grand, it hardly suprising that the chavs are getting hold of them and driving like ****.
I wish one of my first cars was a scoobie....
onder2:
but it was my 3rd car and I was 22

Tell me about it, I usually get loads of waves in Essex, but when I go to Kent to see my girlfriend no bugger ever waves regardless!!! The girlfriend gets a few though! lol!!
Some lads look at her as though she shouldn't be driving it! lol!!

Yeah, I used to have a standard uk my00 and some people looked down their noses at me, let alone wave!

Theres a quite a few scooby drivers round my way, and apart from one ignorant old cow, everyone else waves. Infact even a few of the local chavs in their fibreglass waiting to explode kitted euro boxes wave.
Being courteous(sp) dosent cost anything, so I dont mind it. If theyre to ignorant to oblige, then thats their problem.

IV recently purchased a bugeye (black mica) and have noticed these "waving of the brotherhood" phenomenon. Its cool but wen someone in a moving scooby waves at you you have a micro-second to wave back. Iv wanted respond back a few times but couldnt! Personally a nod of the head or a thumbs up is much quicker and cooler.
I still always wave, it's a nice aspect of owning the car, but I was just trying to add an insight as to why some people don't. They are probably very nice people, but have probably seen a similar scenario as described in my opening post, and are dubious about waving in case: a) you snub them, and/or b) you could be about to embarrass them with idiotic driving. Afterall, 99% of the time they don't know you from Adam.

Got a bugeye and had it since last May. Always try and wave at every scoob I see, just sometimes miss them.
Although I must admit, after four or five snubs in a row, I do feel less inclined to wave first.

I have waved to fellow drivers and regretted it also. When I did not get a reply on one occasion I was quite pleased he did not see me when his hidiously 'personalised' car went past and I saw what the chav had done to it.

I must admit when I was last in redditch over xmas I waved at a load of imprezas but got no reply, this could of been the fact that I was using my dads silver avensis over the holiday period while the scoob was tucked away. But if I see ya when i`m there next, I`ll wave if my visit coincides with a meet and I have time i`ll pop in.

I always try and wave if I can. BUT people have been doing it less and less these years. So I guess I find my self doing it more and more less myself cos you feel daft waving to some one you dont know when your with the wife and she knows what is happening, ha ha. The best time for me is up to the lake district, Ive got plenty of un known mates up there, roll on the summer, and the best for waving are the blokes with a few kids in the back a wife in the front and driving a scoobie wagon! I hope I also have that privelidge in life!!!!!!
