Hi guys (and girls)

Quick question - How much boost should an STi V Type R (if that makes a difference) make? From my gauge, it holds 1.1 bar but I seem to remember someone saying it should be more like 1.2 or even 1.3. Any ideas?

I don't have a Type R but my car peaks at 1.3 bar and holds 1.1 bar and this is slightly over boosting

Don't worry it sounds ok to me.

 

My sti boosted to 15 psi on standard ecu - no overboost especially - held about 14 psi - on a standard 4 door sti 5

What limits the boost produced? Does the ECU have a figure pre-programmed if you like, or does it say "ok, I can boost this much without getting any det (or whatever)"? I've got a full ScoobySport system on my car and just wondered if that would (or should) make it boost higher than normal.

 

The ecu sets the boost, hence another reason why a link ecu is fun as you can can alter the max boost level.

My sti5 my98 runs dead on 1 bar all day long, but pop the link in and 1.3 woohoo peaking at 1.4 on very hot days.

 

I was thinking about the Link but being employed as a lazy @rse, I wanted an ECU that would still use the auto water spray which the Link doesn't do. I know that it's possible to make a pressure switch to trigger it but I am a) a lazy @rse and b) utterly incompetent.

How come your car makes more boost on hot days? Wouldn't it be less because the air is hotter and therefore less dense, so it can't squeeze as much in (ie boost less)? Or is this a bit @rse about face?

 

Steady on Rich you're getting to the limits of my knowledge here, all i know is that when Bob mapped it, it was a toasty day and when it was colder it didnt peak quite so high, as to the why's and wherefore's..........
