Unhappy Weird noise, Turbo area, downpipe?

hey all

tonight the car started making a WEIRD noise..... when blipping the accelerator on idle..sounds like rough sound coming from downpipe/below turbo

my friend had a look, and thinks its coming from the uppipe area, but there isnt a Cat in 1997 Ver4 up pipes i thought?

the noise happens up to around 2K rpm then goes away.... but sounds very horrible, veey hard to describe.... its like a bit of metal is inside the exhaust, or a bolt has blown off and air is leaking out?

when we opened the bonnet we noticed very faint puffs of blue smoke raising from below the turbo area? its not the turbo, he checked the blades and shaft etc and it aint broken, its only a new Vf34 turbo on there... 1-2 months old, running 0.8bar boost.

The engine isnt knocking..

Anyone have any ideas??

help

Up pipe Buggered..

The std up pipe has a joint in the middle which splits, causing blowing.

Rattly heat sheild? When the shield on my up pipe came adrift it rattled at 2000rpm no load. Coincidentally (and presumably as the heat build up in the area was higher) the rocker cover gasket started a small weep, leading to wisps of blue smoke. Just a thought. It is an absolute **** to get to with a welder tho!
