When either reversing or turning on full lock there is a knock/grate from steering. It is slightly similar to the noise you get when DCCD is left in the lock position on parking. 98'STI4 RA. Anyone any ideas. Feels a bit wandry when lighting up in a straight line. Had 30mm eibach kit +geom,but like it before.Hoped it would have been spotted then!!

 

does it only happen on full lock, CV joint??

 

ONLY ON FULL LOCK. CHEERS THOUGHT MIGHT BE THAT MATE. ALWAYS THINK THE WORST LIKE STEERING RACK!!!!!!

 

think i have the same problem with my scooby, where can i get CV joints from and roughly how much are they???

 

I have an 02 STI and I get a 'klonking' sound once or twice when reversing on full lock. The sound appears to come from the front. It feels as if I have run over a stick in the road as the tyres feel as if they jump.
Searched the site and it seems it may be CV joint????
Any other suggestions?
Also would this be covered in the dealer warranty which expires later this year?

for some reason I remember a comment along the lines of they all made a knock sound when reversing on full lock due to the diff's ..

 

My 03sti does this, had my wife look at the tyre as I reversed and the noise is the tyre skipping over the road sideways. only does this with cold tyres, when hot the tyre grips more and does not skip.

Excellent, that sounds cheaper than a CV joint
It does only seem to happen when cold, and my fronts do happen to be slightly low on tread
