Yep!

Loved it. Very good motor all round. Driven it once in shocking weather too - the rubber they fitted (I think UK gets RE050s too) is excellent for OEM spec IMHO.

Loved the way it went abouts its business, sus settings, chassis, the lot just seemed to work together very well (although if I bought one I'd inevitably have to get the roll set a bit tighter ).

The only minor niggle I had was the shifter, which has been "softened" according to the Sube people to better match the nature of the Leggy (vs. the STi). I wish they'd have left it as in the STi personally, but that may be just me

Otherwise, as I said, it was just great all round. Oh and that motor is smoooooth as

Give it a try and let us know what you think

Just traded in a Forester Turbo for a Spec B in black. We also have an MY00 Impreza Turbo Wagon with plenty of mods. Agree with AJ on almost all of that, although I am used to a 5 speed box anyway so have no comment on the gearbox. Tried out the handling seriously for the first time yesterday in a convoy of Imprezas on a very twisty piece of road. Technology has certainly moved on ! And I do rate those tyres (not being a fan of OEM Bridgestones on an Impreza). The car just holds its line and I did not suffer any understeer, having spent a lot of money to iradicate this on our Impreza.

I enjoy the Legacy more each time I drive it - there is enormous ooomph (only done 500 miles), there is fabulous comfort, there is a restrained but still menacing growl, it makes you feel very safe, the 18 inch wheels are so easy to clean.

It is also a fabulously understated car, yet, schoolboys (and girls) and indeed other members of the public turn their heads and gawp at it as i go by. Now I am used to that in a decatted Impreza, but it's not the noise that's doing it - the Legacy has just got something about it.

We will never sell our Impreza, which is part of the family, but I am not sure I would want to part with this either - I am seriously hooked ! And that urge to just go out and drive it for no reason has come back.

I suggest you go for a proper test drive !

Got my Spec B about 4 weeks ago and have clocked up 5000 miles already and not a squeak or rattle so far.

Doesn't attract the attention of chavs or coppers either.

Gonna get a set of these for it in January.

I thought it was superb. Without a doubt, I would buy one of these if I was looking for a car of this type.

As with any production car, improvements can be made. However, you wouldn't be disappointed with it in standard form.

So it's not going to be staying standard for long then, Keith?

http://www.fastwrx.com/blnutoaxexbl.html

They work out at about £460 plus shipping and any tax that we get stung for.

They are likely to be ear splitters, I have e-mailed Blitz UK for a price and availability and will post the reply.

No real performance boost though as the rest of the system would remain standard.

Thumbs up

This IS going to be my next motor with two nippers now and frequent weekend trips to wales my 04 ppp wagon is starting to burst at the seams and i also fancy something with a bit more comfort.
Now if it was fully prodrived it would be near perfect.

But then again my next motor after that will probably be an RS6

Yes - the Spec B came third in the category of, I think, best all rounder on Top Gear. It was interesting that the presenters raved about the sound of the door shutting in a previous programme, and how robust it seemed. Not bad at all for a frameless door, I thought !

In for the 1000 service next week, so looking forward to the drive home afterwards!

Question Legacy or V50 Diesel?!

Following on from the birth of our first baby back in July, the last few months have had me scratching my head over fuel costs, Impreza image etc. (have a MY03 WRX PPP, Springs)

Have all but ordered a Volvo V50 diesel (I can't believe it either) for space and fuel reasons...

Took out the Spec B yesterday (the little devil on my shoulder was urging me to)...first impressions are very, very good. Bigger load space than the V50 and just as many toys but...

1) Am worried about residuals - old shape legacy was notorious for depreciating
2) Standard fit stereo - looks of a similar type to my WRX (hence crap)
3) Fuel consumption figures look terrible and I fear that my overuse of the loud pedal (lovely engine sound) wouldn't help either - also am I back into Optimax land again?

Thoughts? (flame suit on)

Test driving Hendry's "Spec B" (??) next week...

I say ?? because their's is the 2 litre twin scroll motor, not the 3 litre non turbo.... and it's a 5 speed not 6...

Appart from that it's the same leggie (with leather & sat nav upgrades...of course)

Anyway...will let you all know what I think...

Hi Silverback

Talking UK car here, not import

Depreciation? - don't know
Stereo? - much better quality, six cd stacker in dash, six speakers, very good quality
Fuel consumption? Started at 18, now up to 23mpg after 600 miles
Optimax? - not required, so you have a choice.

Regards

Keith

Mines averaged 26mpg over the past 5000 miles, although it's mostly motorway stuff.

Headunit is average, not upgradeable, speakers are poor, but easily upgraded.

I'm not too concerned about depreciation, I'll worry about that when I trade it in for the STi version.

Blitz UK can't get that exhaust, infact they don't think it's even one of theirs anyway. I'll email the American company and get some more info on it.

Well the above pic is of a car that does not exist in any catalogue. The WRB colour was only offered on a limited edition this year, and it came with nice gold wheels

The above is a show car from the Autosalon 2004 with more than 10k STG in bits on it IIRC. STi brakes, special BBS wheels, seats etc - basically the whole STi parts catalogue.

And yes, they did do an estate in that colour
