Fuel consumption UK Sti and with performance upgrades
I know there have been many threads but would like another opinion before I purchase said type car. At present I drive a Fiat 20V TURBO (not modified like Dr Fragg's) and on a long motoway run with some sprited driving get 35mpg, close to the quoted extra urban cycle of 37. Reading about EVO Lancers, their fuel efficiency looks very poor. I know the Subaru's are 4WD and that alone soaks up some fuel. 6th gear in the UK Sti is just slightly less than Fiat's 5th but I do not really want a car under motorway/lonish runs that will return less than 30. If I buy a standard Sti I will look to a power upgrade eg 333 pack, so under steady driving will consumtion go up? I know, and expect under hard driving to get less but needto have a compromise as well. Please advise. Many thanks, Melvyn
Hi Melvyn,
I now have an 02 Sti Prodrive with PPP , and agree with the other posts here ..
Standard Sti you'll be lucky to get 26/27 mpg .. with PPP prob same or a bit less !
I fill up for £40 and get average 200-220 miles with mixture of motorway and the odd fun burst .. These cars are not economical .. even the WRX is meant to get 28/29 to the gallon .. didn't get that either!
Cheers,
Steve

300 miles on my last tank, got 58 litres in it after this (60 litre tank), 2.5 STi engine, 440 BHP/400 lbft. Just not driving like a tit everywhere for once. 80mph cruise to work was 90% of this. Record low for road use is 120 miles on a tank.

I get 22mpg from my STI. I used to get about 25mpg from my old UK turbo normally - the best I ever saw was 33mpg and that was during the Sept 2000 fuel crisis.

It only comes out when the humidity level is 0% so the panels dont rust and fall off.

MY02 STi PPP.
I get 200-240 miles (20-22 mpg) from a tank (refilling just after petrol warning light).
Adding PPP made little difference to mpg. When I first got the car, I drove 700 miles on a motorway round trip. Since I was running the car in, revs never exceeded 4000. I got 310 miles out of one tankful. This is the best you'll ever get.

i own a 02 sti and as everyone else has said i think 20-22 if driving like a fairy, well under that if you are having fun, as someone said ealier in this thread about using it as an eveyday car it doesnt realy matter to me as my other everyday car is 3.0 v6 shogun which does about the same so needless to say visits to petrol station are pretty frequent i my household, not so bad in summer when bike is on the road tho, thats a lot faster and more fun than the scoob and returns about 35 even when being hammered, just lucky me n mrs dont have to travel far to work.

I don't get much above 20-25mpg, maybe more on a long trip, but pretty much all my journeys are short, and I like to have some fun on my short commute, so fuel economy suffers
hmmm performance car that gives more than 30mpg on a run, not that many, unless you go for something small lightweight, maybe an Elise might do, or a Clio172/182?
Otherwise, an alternative, woulbe be one of these new 'Power' diesels, don't shoot me down, but a A Golf GT TDI, with an AMD remap can do 0-60 in 6.5 and 300 lb/ft??, and still get you 40+ mpg on the run?

work out how many miles you do and work out the actual cost difference between 22 and 30 mpg, its not much, when you compare it to depreciation servicing ect.
you just might think twice about some journeys you do.
My wrx used to get upto 35mpg when new, now it is modified and driven on weekends when I know there will be no traffic ect i get about 20mpg. the rest of the time the company car goes out.

You're all making me feel like a right nervous nun...
Black* MY03 STi

Worst: N/A
Average: ~23mpg
*You know colour affects mpg, yes you do.
