depreciation.....how much have you lost since gaining your licence

Default depreciation.....how much have you lost since gaining your licence

1st car - peugeot 205 xs. bought for £1000. sold to scrappy for £50. =£950
2nd car- peugeot 205 1.9 gti. Bought for £2000. Sold for £400. =£1600
3rd car- Fiat punto GT turbo. Bought for £5500. Sold for £1800= £3700
4th car- Current** 206 GTI. Bought for £8000. Probably worth £5000=£3000

So in total ive lost £9250 in the last 8 years..........

Not too bad. ....equates to a £1156 a year

oh alright, seeing as its mainly a case of cut & paste!

'92 Mini Cooper ...paid £5K ...sold for £4200
'93 Integralé EVO ...paid £15K ...was nicked & got 13500 from ins
'95 GT-Four ...paid £18K ...sold for £9K
'94 GT-Four WRC ...paid, cant say as its for sale!

so about £13K over roughly 10 years ...not as bad as some to come me thinks!

I would hate to sit down and work out the answer to this one! Had 8 cars in 8 years of driving. Skinted by cars!

Had fun driving them though

Scooby in £11000 out £7300 - loss £3800
Saxo in £10500 out £7700 - loss £2800
Pug 406 1 £2100 blew up and nothing made back on parts yet so - loss £2100

So as it stands I've lost £8700 in 5 years so, £1740 per year

1st car - 205 1.9 GTi - bought 650 sold 1400 = 750
2nd car - 205 1.6 GTi - bought 1400 sold 1100 = -300
3rd car - 205 1.9 GTi turbo technics - bought 1000 (spent 1250 on), sold 2750 = 550

so overall +1000 over 4 years, however ive spent a fair bit on them (replacement parts etc), so probably broken even/made a slight loss.

Amazing how many people ignore depreciaton, and will pay loads extra for something that does more MPG even if they dont do much mileage.

scooby bought for 22500.00
px for 9600.00

loss 12900.00 plus fssh and tyres @ approx 8000.00 lets call it around 20k shall we!


oh well wont make the same mistake again........

audi 3.0 quattro convertable bought for 29995.00
in three years ?

i would be devistated to know over past 15yrs

just over last 3yrs

calibra 16v paid £3,000 (blew engine following day) cost 1,800 sold £500=-£4,300

saxo vtr paid £9,000 px £4,000 -5,000

astra gsi paid 15,000 px £12,500 -2,500

sti ppp paid £27,000 dealer would give me £23,000 3mts later -£4,000


in 3years loss=£15,800

LOL just worked all mine out about 43K on 9 motors, that obvioulsy doesnt include mods or repairs. Scarey, thanks for posting this thread its cheered me up no end .

Only had 2 cars, and sold me Impreza Today.

Pug 106 GTi Bought for £5000 sold for £5000
Subaru Impreza Bought for £12,000 sold for £8.000 today

Ive lost £4k in 4 years of having my drivers licence. so thats a £1000 a year which aint to bad.

Depreciation has probably cost me on average £2k per year for the last 18 years.

Since 1982 (22 years .... buggar!!!)

honda cb100 bought 250 sold 200
allegro bought 1500 sold 500 (damn lucky and big relief that one!)
volvo 4250 sold 1500
pug 405 bought 5500 sold 4250
micra bought 2250 sold 1750
golf gti mk1 bought 800 sold 500
golf gti mk2 bought 3750 sold 2500
tzr 250 bought 1750 sold 1750 (not bad for a year's thrashing! ;-) )
fz750 bought 2200 sold 2000 (2 and a half years riding!)
93 blade bought 5250 sold 4250
Toyota Lancruiser bought new 16.5k and still got
Toyota Mr2 bought new 15k and still got
Daewoo Matiz bought new for 3600 and still got
Suzuki Hayabusa (very highly modded) bought new 6.5k and still got
Yamaha dt200r bought for 1400 and just recently flogged for 1150.

Probably about right that ..... so totting that up it's a princely sum of ....
damn pretty suprised ..... £8650 over 22 years ... now I am a happy man :-)

1975 bought Mk1 RS2000 £1,750 - sold 1984 £1,700 - loss £50
1990 bought 3-door Cosworth (my ex company car) £6,900 - sold 1999 £6,500 - loss £400 (plus £3,000 engine rebuild)
1999 bought current STi £20,000 - value now £8,000 - loss £12,000
