Question Starting problem - MY98 UK Turbo - Crank posn sensor???

Got a weird starting problem.
Car starts OK from cold, 95 % of the time !!
After running round and stopping car fails to restart, but only 50% of the time. AA man figured it was the fuel pump as there was no fuel pressure, a bang on the bottom of the tank seemed to kick it into life. Got a new fuel pump and regulator from AS Performance, fiited and everything was OK for a few days, now car is doing the same again. Have left the regulator gauge in and when this happens there is no fuel pressure again.
Could this be something to do with the immobiliser section of the alarm, (Laserline 996) but starter circuit is fine, or is the pump controlled via a relay (and not just the ECU) and it could be the relay which is faulty.

Heellllpppp!

Thanks,

Neil

Hi

check the connector under the rear seats which feeds the fuel pump, its a common problem.

Angry Crank position sensor?

Been advised by local Subaru garage it could be the above. Anybody had one fail on them and did it give these symptoms? Already cost me £200 + a hard days graft to change pump and regulator, would like some confirmation before I spend another £95 +vat + fitting on a whim !!
Cheers Robbo

I had a similar problem and it was as you suggested in your title, the crank position sensor. Well, I think it was since I fitted an earthing mod kit at the same time! Not too sure if the fuel pump relay or any other stuff in the fuel supply is disabled the crank sensor goes awol.

I would take the sensor out, give a clean (especially) the contacts. If you havent got the earthing mod, then spend a few quid down Halfords sort that out. At least it's cheap, quick and might help with any electrical glitches.

Good luck!

At the front of the engine, below the alternator, on the block.
Small 2 pin grey connector
IIRC its an 8mm bolt holding it in
