The WRX TD04 turbo will fit in place of the TD035.
The JDM XT already has a TD04 variant in place but it will also have a map to suit, different IC and possibly injectors - so there's more to this than just swapping turbos.

Perhaps look for a turbo off an old shape JDM Forester or a JDM classic wagon as they have the TD04 variant that gives lower down torque but sacrifices top end power.

Not tried it , my '01 has a td04 already. I think it's the same intercooler as standard, but my injectors are 440's vs 380's.

There are XT's running vf22's vf34's vf39's etc etc

Fundamentally yes you can fit bigger turbo's , but you need to be aware of the supporting stuff required. A good tuner should be able to help. You need to decide what you want and how much you want to pay though

If your going to go through all the hassle if fitting the supporting mods...remap, injectors etc, then you might as well go the whole hog and fit
a TD05 for the extra factor

Are the internals up to TD05 ? . wonder in fact if the engine is the same as WRX one?

Engine is higher compression (on the JDM models at least) , otherwise identical AFAIK.

If you fit a bigger intercooler (like an STi8 one) you may have to relocate the PS reservoir, apparently.

Internals are up to whatever the size of your wallet weak areas are the same as imprezas.

Bob did my mapping btw...
