i was in this position in Feb this year.
£16k would have got me a 10month old MY03 (EU Dutch Import) 9k miles etc.. maybe with a extras.
trouble with a bug eye at thios month IMO is that in another 3/4yrs it will really date! you then come to sell and it will be like a white elephant IMHO... a classic shape still sells well.. but bug eyes.. not so good!
Do what i did.. go for a cheaperr option and save your cash
a SMART is for life.. not just a stop gap car

ps...i see SB4 fell flat.. what did i tell ya

I'd have to say the P1. A bugeye STI might be great fun now, but in a few years' time when you come to sell it'll be virtually impossible to shift, as everyone will want the facelifted car of similar age. The '03 WRX represents a step up in quality and comfort from your current car but its performance may disappoint. The P1, on the other hand, will hold its value and perform better - the best of both worlds.

salsa-king, thanks for your comments, and all others for voting and posting comments too.
not quite phil, just paused while I get some time to look at some hotels
I'm a family man, and the 4 dour classic is actually quite useful, so a P1 would be a step back really. I know what your saying about the bugeye, but aren't they coming back into vouge now?
Whatever I decide on, I'll be visiting Mr Rawle as a matter of urgency anyway, as he has transformed my current car.
Keep posting, need as many votes as possible.

From: was the drivers seat of Richard Burns's P1 now in a boxster S
I was in the same position as you a few months ago. Had a MY99 ppp and was looking for something new with 17000 to spend. Had driven a bugeye sti (UK) at a trackday and found them heavy and underwhelming, plus whatever anyone says they are and always will be ugly as sin. Thought about a jap import sti but really wanted some warranty. Thought about a P1, this was the car I had lusted after when they first came out, limited edition, suspension tuned for UK roads and look the dogs danglies but, I wondered, are they going to be that much different to the MY99 PPP I already had?
Found one advertised on scoobynet, 2 years warranty, Godspeed brakes, bumpsteer mod, scoobysport exhaust and it was owned by Richard Burns
Went for a test drive and was instantly sold, for a start classics look so much better with two doors and I really do think the P1 is the best looking scoob ever made. Speed, feels considerably faster than my old car, far faster than the figures would suggest. Handling is awesome grip is just out of this world and there is virtually no understeer it just goes where you point it, this took some getting used to at first but now I can carry 20% more speed around the corners than I used to and I don't feel I have reached the limits of the car yet. The old car felt soft and slow after the P1. Find a nice one with upgraded brakes and take it for a test drive you will not be dissapointed.

Chris,
What are you doing?! After getting yours to where you want it, your getting shot?
Just make sure the new owner takes it to Raid Across the Border 4 - it's tradition you know

A lot of the Cumbrians now prefer to do their hard driving on private circuits where it is safer to find their cars and their own limits

Best wishes to the family
Take care, Jon
I've had my P1 for 6 months now, and have owned a MY1994Wrx before that, the P1 came with 18" alloys and a brake upgrade, I just can't believe how well it goes round corners, with a ride that does not do your head in after a few weeks, just fiited the Blitz and SS downpipe, still smiling
You should go with an import. Basically there are so many about in the UK now that resale values in a few years time will be coming in line with a UK supplied model. Dealers make alot of money from servicing etc and are beginning to realise that they need to target the growing numbers of EU or Jap supplied cars. Mind you , many on here would advocate not using a Subaru dealer due to prices anyway.....
If you are happy to think that you pay less for it, the fact it will sell on for a little less than a UK car shouldnt come into the equation. It should depreciate at the same rate as a UK car, just from a lower start price.
Thats what I would do. Also, if you can handle a LHD car, for £16k you can have a brand new WRX, or for a few dollars more the 2.5 litre STI. (You lot get fleeced in the UK....)
LHD also not as attractive to the criminals as they cant sell them on easily, and the chances are they are not intelligent enough to drive one. Only pain is supermarket barriers with ticket machines.... but its a small price to pay.
Just my two penneth. Its what I am doing.
