Suggestions for improvements to the FAQ / Scoobynet2
Hi All
Great to get Scoobynet back,
I'm currently helping Simon to compile a list of improvements to Scoobynet2.
One of which is a new updated FAQ with info like "What does MY mean?", "What
is Bump Steer?", etc. Any suggestions for this or other improvements
gratefully received.
Thanks
Alec

How about answers to some DIY questions?
For example fitting an induction kit, or a downpipe. If I had known how easy it is to change the front discs/pads I think I would have done it myself. Then again I forget to tighten wheel nuts so may be I wouldn't
cheers,
Justin

Alex,
I don't really know if this is feasible, but some sort of mandatory rules as regards user information when someone registers.
This might deter idiots from being 'anonymous' with their details and think twice about putting insulting content in threads etc.
It may also cut down on time spent tracing the idiots back to their address.
Just a thought you know.

How about an auction section?
People with bits to sell could post them up with a reserve price and everyone would get a fair go at bidding. The present for sale section can be a bit frustrating for those of us who don't live next to our computers and always seem to miss out.

Good idea Alec about undating the FAQ.
How about a simple tips list for use of the BBS.
I guess most newbies dont know about the search and all the valuable info thats in here. How to post pictures use of smilies etc.
I know there is a BBS faq but it needs condencing as it a lot read and most people ignore and post it any way. Maybe it could be emailed along with the welcome message.
Perhaps also the search button needs to be more in your face, grpahic and flashing etc.
. As it hidden away, I guess that why people miss it.
cheers

Hi Mr Moderator,
Sometimes I read a message which starts "well over here....." and I have to dig into the profile to see that "over here" actually means the US of A and not North Watford.
So what about putting a location on the left bit of the message where you now have name, number of posts etc. Might encourage more international input as well? Just a thought. Well done on getting ScoobTwo back on stream.
DL.

The FAQ in question is the ScoobyNet BBS FAQ, not the SIDC one.
David
That's an easy one
. Should now show locations in all new threads (and ones with new posts).
If anyone is against this can they let me know.

Hi Chaps
Members gallery is a really nice idea. It would be a bit of work to set it up though, so maybe we could have a show of hands as to how many people who use it?
We would be pleased to put the time in if it is going to be used. Space / bandwidth are not an issue.
Chris
Great idea. The thing is, all of these mods are written by individuals and have no support. Also when the latest version of the BBS software comes out, you have to go through and add all the mods on again.
It's a tricky call. If it would really add to the BBS then, again, we are more than happy to put the time in. But if it doesn't really add much??
What do you think?
Cheers

S de B - sorry Webmaster
Is not a "Member's Gallery" just a place where the poster places a link to their/another web-location?
Any pics I have posted on here, 22b or RSOC are all hosted on my website. Does that use up your bandwith?
I for one would "stick up" loads of pics

How about a "Haynes manual" type FAQ detailing/showing diy procedures.
It should cover the basics (e.g. brakes, oil, general servicing), some of the unusual (e.g. changing power steering fluid, clucth plates), plus upgrades and mods (e.g. diy-chipping, adding aux-lighting, downpipies, suspension, maybe even ECUs).
It should NOT be a "here's the best product" FAQ/debate, but a "you've chosen the part(s), here's how to fit/change them" FAQ.
To date one thing that always seems to be missing when DIY procedures have been posted is torque settings. Not always essential, but it's nice to know you did the job correctly/safely.
Cheers,
ColinU.

Nice one chaps, an interactive BBS
Basically, you put at the end.
Must include the http:// bit
The URL should point to a picture file [ .gif or .jpg ] on your or someone elses's webspace.
To upload a picture to your webspace, you must use an FTP client like Cuteftp or similar.
If you want to see the line as it should be, EDIT my pic above.
Anyprobs doing this, email me the pic & I'll post it for you. Please ensure pics are as small as poss otherwise takes an age to download
- 100k max?

I second the Haynes Manual and will contribute if I can...
May I suggest that the forums could be renamed or recategorised to be a bit more logical?
The forums in Sales, Insurance and Events are clear and seem to get used properly.
The postings in the forums in Technical Questions are usually technical but not always questions (OK this is a minor point but as a result technical comments are often posted elsewhere).
The AOB category is unnecessary since all forums have a function: ICE should be in Technical. Dealer Queries, New Product Launch and Discount Schemes could either be in Sales or in their own category (e.g. Scooby Snacks). General Questions ought to be called Scooby Chat (or similar) and a new forum called Scooby Questions could used for real general questions. Then these last four forums could be categorised as say General.
Since this change would affect the way General Questions is currently viewed, a new dedicated search button could be used to select the active topics from just the Chat and Questions forums.
Sorry if this sounds dull (just call me Mr. Logic) but you did ask for suggestions.
