Default Cambelt help...

Need to replace the cambelt on my Scoob.
Where is the cheapest place to get one?
Halfords just quoted me a huge £85.
Cheers.

A cambelt is a cambelt isn't it?
Don't see why a standard one won't do?

Found this one for £47 + £8 p&p.
But i thought this was still a bit steep for a belt.

Cost of engine:- 1500+ quid
All for what? a saving of 30 quid?
Id stick with the cambelts that Subaru use and recommend.

Ok - very good point.
Just so i have this right, is the belt at the front of the engine bay (just behind the rad) the cambelt or just a drive belt?
Sorry - showing a complete lack of engine knowledge today!!

That is the drive belt for the alternator power steering pump and aircon compressor (if aircon fitted). The cambelt is inside the plastic covers on the front of the engine. BTW I hope you are going to get someone who knows this engine to change the cambelt or help/advise you first.

Gates cambelt is only non-subaru cambelt that I would use...£53.27+vat for MY93 to MY00.

(not to be confused with other lesser brands) Guess what manufacture brand is stamped on the "genuine" Subaru Belt I have....Gates!

If you have seen the size of a Subaru timing belt, then you'll know part of the reason why it's expensive, because it is BIG, a lesser belt will fray/wear out pretty quickly due to the stresses, etc of a large belt.
Stick with the genuine article.

99% of cambelts sold in the UK are made by Gates. Genuine or Aftermarket.
