Droplinks!! is it a good mod??
Hi all
As above, I am thinking aboult getting some aloy droplinks(Whiteline).
What difference do they make?? Is it worth the small cost?

Done Whiteline heavy duty droplinks and anti roll bars all round on my 01 wrx and the handling now is fantastic.Demon Tweeks were doing a group buy for us on this a while ago and I *think* that they still will if you call them up.The guy you need to speak to is Dave Featherstone
Good luck

Good luck
As already mentioned MEF (Martin) has some for sale.
I doubt that you will be able to tell the difference with drop links on their own unless the bushes are well shot. In that case MEF's drop links are economically viable with no other mods.
For startling results fit the drop links from MEF along with a Whiteline ARB on the rear. One step further would be the anti-lift kit.
I did the following recently.
Rear ARB Whiteline.
Camber bolts.
Anti lift kit. Whiteline.
Springs. Eibach.
I saw no need to do the drop links at the time as the plastic composite are pretty rigid but I am now fitting them in isolation to finish the job off. I was tempted by the good price even though they may not be esential but I will report my findings.

I fitted a set of solid drop links all round a couple of years after I had fitted my Leda coilover kit. At the time I had standard bushes and anti-rollbars, the leda was relatively lightly sprung (275lb front, 225lb rear) and I immediately noticed the difference!
The car was much more 'pointy', the body roll reduced, there was no longer a sense of the car leaning a bit onto the anti-rollbars and then a little bit of 'give' before going onto them fully. In all I found the body control was siginificantly improoved and the car was more predicatable when thrown around enthusiastically.
One of the best and cheaspest mods I have made to my car's chassis IMHO

Drop links connect the anti-rollbar which is already fixed to chassis of the car to the suspension wishbones/arms, they allow the suspension to remain independant and yet still be linked IYSWIM
UK cars and WRX as standard have plastic drop links that flex when they're loaded and so add a certain 'woolly' response to the suspension when the car starts to suffer body roll.
Sti's have solid drop links as standard
The aftermarket kits don't flex, are fitted with harder bushes and also add a little pre-load to the anti-rollbars so they are working all the time, stiffening up the car a little, but really reducing body roll

Some Powerflex rear droplinks were the 1st handling mod I did on my MY00 - I must admit I wasnt expecting to feel any difference at all with just the links [ I was still waiting delivery of a 22m adjustable ARB - but just couldnt wait to put them on !! ] - but the car was a lot better with the droplinks changed. Turn in was much better and less roll on sudden direction change.
Well worth doing - you'll soon then want the rear ARB to add even better handling.

Dan, if the Leda kit on your car is less than 3 years old it's probably got 325lb front and 225lb rear springs. Before that they were like mine was...
I've since completely wrecked the car for sane road driving by moving to 350lb front and 275lb rear sptings with full powerflex bushing, at sane speeds the car is twitchy and unpredictable, but at stupid speed on the road it's incredible...but that's wrong...although it is stunning on track

Sounds like we have a similar setup i.e. WRX01 with Leda B coilovers. I also run 6pot AP's and around 285bhp(decat and TEK3)
I have yet to do the droplinks/anti-lift kit thing my question is simply is it worth doing ?

Rich, my car is a little over 6 years old now (I've owned it from new) so is quite different to the new age car. I would say that drop links are worth doing, they're a relatively cheap and simple mod that made me much more confident when pressing on and performing quick direction changes.
I've not got the anti lift kit, I have driven a car with it fitted and didn't really notice it, but then again it was a Type R so they tend to be more throttle adjustable from the rear
Last time I had the geometry done I intended to get the bumpsteer mod carried out, but my suspension was so firm it wasn't possible to get the car to move enough! However, my girlfriend had an RB5 WR which was standard in the suspension departement appart from the geometry and bumpsteer adjustments made by Powerstation. It was incredible to drive, nigh on impossible to make understeer...even if it still had too much body roll for my tastes
