Default Help. MY04 Steering noise.

My car makes a kind of lound humming noise, and a slight vibration through the steering wheel when turning right. It can happen at low or high speed, but generally happens at low speed when turning relatively tightly (say out of a junction or into a parking space).

It varies on volume, but can be pretty loud, especially in the morning.

It only happens when turning right.

It has only started happening recently. It was fine for the 1st 2000 miles. I had the Pro Drive springs fitted by the dealer, and a Geometry setup carried out during the 1000 mile service.

The dealer thinks its the power steering pump, and pretty much shrugged his shoulders like this is normal. Not on any car I've ever owned. I want push him on this, and would really appreciate suggestions as to the cause. Anyone had this problem before. Anyone agree that its normal.

Thanks,

Graham.

Dealer has ordered up a replacement power steering unit. Subaru Technical think its the bearings in the unit that are the problem. We shall see.
