Hi peeps.

If TRAX 2000 isn't enough to quench your lust for Silverstone, there are still several places left at the RSOC National Day, being held there on Sun July 30th.
A few of us are already going, but it would be great to invade and get a decent Scoob presence there, going in convoy even cooler!
Tyres Northampton will be in attendance to offer all the usual services, and the cost for the day is only £150!!!!
The day will be run in sessions of 3 x 20 min, so there'll be loads of track time.
If anyone is interested, post here and call Trudi on 0118 984 1583 to book.
Come on, let's sort this out. It should be a top day!

Don't Silverstone have the same rules as Brands?

No passengers unless you've got an ARDS license (or something like that)?

Also, don't they insist on a A rated crash helmet? I think (but may not be right), that A helmets have a gold sticker on the back?

We're talking about driving your own car round the full GP circuit here.
Do it for your benefit, not your passengers!
They hire (loan?) helmets at TRAX, so I guess they'll do the same here as most people won't have their own.

You just need the usual helmet as any other track event.

Dont rely on hiring one as it's unlikely you will be able to do that, go and buy one, its your life you are protecting remember!

There are no passengers allowed, but it is the full GP track.

This is the only track day of the year that will use the full GP track and believe me it is bloody awesome.

If the rumours i hear are correct, this will be your last chance ever to drive the GP track in a road car!!!

Get your *** there, there are 140 places up for grabs in total, to date only 70 have been booked and RS's are the minority.

Basically lets get the scoobies outnumbering the RS's and really wind em up.

I know i dont drive a scoob on track, but a wind up is a wind up.

 

Come on guys get your wallets out and pick up your helmets.

Like JohnF says it's the British GP track !

If thats not incentive enough, just imagine how pi**ed off the RS boys will be when they see a track full of Scoobys.

What you gonna tell your mates Monday. "I drove the GP circuit at Silverstone" or "I went to the SIDC AGM"

Booked in tonight, only 5 Scoobs so far, so we need more people to turn up.

They are grouping by ability and I believe there will be instructors there.

I am puzzled at how they are grouping by ability, as I am booked on and was not asked whether I had been on any previous track days or not?

Obviously they will group the 4wd "girls" in the lowest ability class anyway....

Apparently they are going to group on the day, depending on how many turn up finally.

Last year at signing on they asked you which group you would like to run with.

I can't see how thay can make a decision on how quick you are as there is no way for them to know.

Just make an honest choice, you dont want to be running with the quick boys (ME ) if you are a track virgin.

I dont see it as grouping by car speed realy, its more down to experience.

If you are not very experienced go with the slow group (it doesnt mean you drive slowly) if you fancy piting yourself against some seriously quick cars run with the fast group.

Either way, i will be considerably quicker than yow! LOL

I think they are grouping on experience. another thread on 22b said they may group on power, but experience seems the better way to go!

Are slicks the recommended way to go?

I've got a 2nd set of wheels on the way, and after Abingdon I'm expecting to need new tyres.

I'm sure I've read somewhere that slicks overstress the Scoob, if that is the case, what tyres would people recommend I get purely for track days?

I will use one set of wheels for road, and the other for tracks.

i think that they both have the advantage aspects, not sure which is best though, i would like to have a go with john just to see on comparision of top speed, but never done a track day and only going to have a week with another 90bhp...could get quite scarry..

I'm Booked, brakes sorted.

I thought I'd heard somewhere that slicks were not allowed on this day. Best check with RSOC before you get there with only your brand new SO2's as an alternative. They'd last, maybe, 3 laps!

Looks like slicks are banned, but I think thats in our (scoobies) favour

I'll leave it until sometime nearer to Brands Hatch day. Hopefully I'll be sporting a LEDA upgrade by then Did you get my message on the Maldives?

 

Just to confirm it, slicks are not going to be allowed on road cars. I can't remember the full explanation but it's on the RSOC BBS.

Hope none of you have shelled out big bucks on a set in preparation for the day.
