Anyone here using any MOTUL 300V (double ester) products and what viscosities?

I believe they are 0w-20, 5w-30, 5w-40, 10w-40, 15w-50 and 15w-60.

Anyone any bad experiences with this oil or happy with its performance.

These are not loaded questions but we are looking at stocking these products from November and would like some users opinions and feedback.

I have been using Motul (particulary 300V 15W-50 and 5W-40) several years already, I have been VERY happy with performance and reliability! Big thumbs up!

 

I'm using 300v 15/50 in a MY00 Classic.
Changing oil and filter every 3000 Miles.

No problems.

TBH - wouldn't use anything else.

 

Higher low rpm oil pressure when hot, more consistent oil temps, much more consistent hot visc (based on hot oil changes), much more consistent visc over time, pleasant smell.

Wouldn't use anything else now, unless I had to.

I have been very happy with Motul 300V 15W50 in the Scoob and just changed the oil again on Friday funny enough.

Also use 5W40 in the wifes car..

I too changed to Motul recently and have so far it appears a good oil. No oil comsuption, looked ok when last checked it.

Taking the chance, I've just one question about the viscosity recommended...

I have a pretty much stock MY99, and I'm using 300V 15W50. Some friends told me it could be a bit over the top and recommended 5W40. The only difference I notice to the previous oil i used (apart from looking much better after some use), is that the car is a little bit noisier on idle...

I'm also planning to up the boost a bit in the very near future (Dawes + FCD for 1.1 bar stable, stock TD04).

What viscosity would you recommend?

Re using 15w50, there was a good debate about this on 22B.com and no-one saw it as a problem using it in the winter.

I personally think 5w is to thin, 10 is probably optimum (depending on the temp at that viscosity, ie, the number after the 15W)

Should be a bit quieter on a slightly thicker oil.

I hear the reasoning for 5W40 in the winter but have had no problems with 15W50 in the winter.. car has now done 153,200miles and I won't be changing habbits that appear to work..

 

I have a friend who uses Mobil 0W 40 in his Impreza Turbo MY97, I have told him I don't think this is a great idea following various things I've read.
Can anyone confirm this so I can show this thread, if indeed there is a problem.

 

I use to use Mobil 1 in all my cars, then someone perswaded me to try Motul and it made the mobil 1 seem like wee wee in comparison imho.. I would not use Mobil 1 full stop now but especially not in 0W40 in an impreza engine..

Exactly as I thought, my friend won't be told though. He's also using a chip (don't know exactly what) that came out of a legacy turbo in his Impreza without any sort of remapping on it. At the moment it has idling problems and seems to run hot, I wonder why?
Cue £3K engine rebuild I suspect.

 

Just to add a slightly different angle, i changed my oil to Motul 300V (15w-50) after all the good reports i heard about it. After that the tappets would NEVER shut up hot or cold. So i changed back to 10w-40 and although it sometimes gets a little noisy when cold it soon disapears when warm.

Mind you thats got nothing to do with how well the oil performs i suppose, its just too thick to get into the oil ways of mine and as most of you impreza owners are on solid lifters it wont matter.,

Mind you maybe thats what u get for driving a legacy! lol

interesting.. I believe I have the same tappets as you.. MY96 UK Impreza.

It was noisy on the semi the dealer used to use, I started servicing it myself when I decided the service history was worthless at 100k anyway.

Used Mobil 1 which quietened down the tappets slightly..

then Motul silenced them totally..?

 

i have noticed when changing 300v(15w50) it still looks to have the same viscosity as when i put it in, the same can not be said for mobil 1 motorsport that was used before, that comes out like water.

i change every 6k

It was terrible with the Motul. I drove to Devon form the midlands after i had just done it, and i did it all the way down and back!

As soon as i swaped i noticed the difference. However it does say in the handbook to use 10w-40 in my engine so i dunno. My engine has only done 50k though after rebulid.

Either way i wont be using it again in a hurry, it turned out to be an expensive oil flush in the end!

To be honest, 5w or 10w oils are better for winter. So I would stick to these for better cold start protection.

With regards to Silkolene, it's my biggest seller so I will continue, just heard and the posts here reinforce good reports on MOTUL.

Looks pretty expensive though.

we now only sell/supply/use Motul or Millers Motorsport products after years of using just about most on the market, you do get what you pay for (or in Millers case you don't if you get my drift "v.good value"!!!)

and its not as expensive as you'd think if you buy at the right place!! LOL

Oilman,

I wouldn't run my car on 10w/40 any more as the power is rather more than it used to be, and the forged pistons definitely run quieter on the 15W/50.

A 10W/50 would be nice I suppose.
