Have to admit, if you don't live on a farm or have access to some cross country fun, I don't see the point. The most "off road" 99% of owners do is two wheels on the kerb! and they're taking some stick in the press lately!
Having said that, I suppose it's no worse than stuck in a traffic jam sitting in your 300bhp 150mph Jap mobile?

Makes me laugh Scooby owners making eco-agro against 4x4 off-roaders!
I think everyone should have a fuel allowance - when you've finished it you walk! - How's about that! 5,000 miles in your 4x4, 7000 in your scooby (3000 if you like track days
) or 15000 in your A class diesel (sounds like hell 15,000 miles in an A-Class - think I'd rather walk!)
It gets me when people who fly around the world in aircraft, do 50,000 miles a year in a company diesel mundaneo whinge about people who want to drive a vehicle with a slightly higher fuel consumption!
Anyway enjoy your Explorer, I love these sort of vehicles
I too looked at gas conversion - but they seem to be about £2500 - which needs alot of miles done to make a saving!!!

Cheers Mick , re the lpg I got a quote from a local LPGA registered installer and it came out at £1520 inc ,thats for a spare wheel type tank and not one that takes up the boot . I worked out that doing 10,000 miles a year It should pay for itself within 2 years

Another trouble with LPG is lower mpg and also if you get the LPG tank that replaces the petrol tank it obviously will have a lower capacity than the original by account of having to be a pressure vessel rather than a pressing. On the disco you can have them under the sills & stuff but it seems to demand too many compromises to the vehicle for me!
What will you do for a spare wheel if you have a tank there?

umm... actually my concern would be the safety... did you realise these are some of the most unsafe "cars" in a crash? Both for the occupants and for the unlucky people that get hit?
And did you realise that the tyres have a habit of delaminating at speed and causing these "cars" to roll over? If you think I'm kidding, do a Google search for "Bridgestone Ford Explorer" and see what comes up
.
I dislike soft-roaders on principle anyway as they clog up the streets and are unsafe, but to my mind the Ford Explorer is the worst for a whole fistful of reasons
.
That said, best of luck!

Why do soft-roaders 'clog up the streets'?
Evrybody clogs up the streets for someone...
I hate every one slower than me - they get in my way!
- and I hate everyone faster than me - they are dangerous!
(or better drivers than me & that's even worse
)
Have a nice day now...

They clog up the streets because they are longer, significantly wider and taller than cars and therefore use up more space in parking spaces, and hinder others' safe driving by blocking the views of cars behind them. Delivery vans are just as bad but at least they have no choice! (Can't deliver too many washing machines in a Scoob
).
And I agree about drivers slower/faster than me
.
