Default 05 STI + PPP or WR1

Just been reading about the 05 STI, looks quite interesting:

Same engine
Same Gearbox

But now has:

DCCD
Active Yaw Control
10mm Longer Wheelbase
15mm Wider Rear Track
Larger Wheel Bearings
Increased Castor Angle
Underfloor aerodynamic guards.
Improved Interior
New Air Con Controls

Price: £25995

Available in WR Blue / Mica Black / Silver / White.

Add a portion of PPP @ £1995

Would this give you the same sort of performance as a WR1, but with colour choice??

Answers on a postcard to a fat bloke in the midlands, please.

No, as you'd need the suspension tweeks too

I'd have thought that you'd only notice the suspension mods on the track rather than on the road.

The WR1 will have better resales than the MY05 comes out. That'll drop like they all do when the model is replaced the following year. The words "lead" and "balloon" spring to mind.

The wheels on the WR1 are the best part of £2000 as well.

Oh and i think the key ring you get must be about another £1000...

For WR1 money you could also look at Litchfield Imports' Type 20, which has all the power of the WR1 (and better flexibility thanks to the base JDM car's twin scroll turbo) plus fully adjustable AST suspension and all the '05 mods.

Is that a JDM car or a Litchfield model?

The '05 model is also available in silver and a pretty nice metallic grey...

And yes, you notice the Prodrive springs on the road, never mind the track...

I'm with you. The new STI with all the improvements is a much more compeling car than the WR1. You'll also get a discount on list with a new STI. Sure the WR1 has nice alloys, but the new STI ones look damn nice. You can always order WR1 style alloys for the new STI and sell for good money the STI alloys.

The WR1 is handicaped by the colour and will/is already struggling to hold its money.

The T20 is a modified JDM STI with about 320bhp thanks to a remap and exhaust swap.

It's just a bit of marketing really, you can always buy a JDM STI and have the exhaust, map and suspension done later. I may well go this route myself but I figure I'd rather start out with the standard car and then have some relatively inexpensive upgrade options open for when I inevitably start to get bored

(Regular readers will know that, along with several other SN members, I have a MY05 JDM STI on order from Litchfields).

I suspect the WR1 will hold its value fairly well; for some reason which I really can't figure out, special editions have a habit of doing that even when they're not really that special at all. Just look at the RB5.

I agree on the wheels BTW - I feel much less inclined to swap them than I would have done if I'd ordered a MY04 car. I might have them painted silver, though.

I don't think that WR1 wheels will fit an '05 STi. The hubs are bigger with different stud spacings. However, I'm sure Prodrive will have a similar wheel that fits on the market pretty soon.

Prodrive will have a version of the PFF7 (WR1) wheel with the correct stud spacing.

Agreed Andy - Just can't see the desire to have gold wheels, especially on a silver or grey car.

THAT colour looks superb BTW, but it needs PFF7s, and NOT in gold....

No mate.

The UK car is 2 litre & single scroll.

JDM is 2 litre twin scroll.

I think you'll find the US car doesn't have a twin scroll turbo, nor is it available in RHD, of course. The twin scroll turbo in the Type 25 isn't a Subaru-sourced item at all.

And why are you wishing to purchase one from this company, based on you're previous outbust's?

Shaun,

Probably because if 6Pot remains committed to the brand and its products, then he will probably make his next purchase from Litchfield or David Hendry, both of whom are independents not linked to the IM family.

I think 6Pot would agree that it wasn't Subaru (Japan) per se that let him down. However I probably can't say anymore due to the embargo on that issue.

All manufacturers have their problems. Its how the problems are dealt with that really matters. If the customer is left feeling good about things then that's a result. If not.....
