Default Newbie needs info!

Hi all - I am new to Subaru but just purchased a '95 Turbo2000 5dr after much searching around.
It is a std UK model , 90k with full main dealer history (cambelt done) so I think I have done alright as my main criteria was , insurable , less than 4k with a good service record.
However I did look at imports , which all seem to be more powerful than my UK car and have more toys .
Can anyone explain what the differences are that gives more power ? Is it just the boost level?
any help much appreciated
cheers
joolz

Depends which imports you are talking about, but there's more to it than more boost. Sti's for example have different turbo, cams, ecu, intercooler, pistons, injectors, etc, etc, etc.

First and foremost, welcome to the forum and enjoy your new car. Don't get hung up on 'what if's - there are no 'bad' or 'wrong' turbo Imprezas, just different trade-offs between cost, performance, comfort and dealer backup.

The STI looks the same on the outside but actually shares few components with the UK-spec car. Although the extra power does indeed come mainly from running more boost, the whole engine is uprated to withstand the increased loads - so, it has a different block, crank, pistons, heads, turbo, cams... although the basic layout is the same.

If you want to upgrade your own car to similar power then there are plenty of options - although they tend not to involve fitting STI parts. There are plenty of reputable tuners up and down the country - where are you based?

It's very out of date, actually - no mention of the new shape car at all. I know some efforts have been made to update it but they've yet to see the light of day.

The new shape doesn't count, it's not a proper Impreza.

Cool

hi

Thanks for all the responses and the link to sidc.

I am in Cambridgeshire, but haven't heard of any Subaru specialists round here, only 2 main dealers within 25 miles of me.
I am happy that I've chosen the right car (took long enough!) for me - i need a hatch (doing me house up) nor do I want every 1.2 litre Nova with Evo 6 bumpers hanging off my **** every time I go to town. (trust me there are at least 2 in my town !) Hence going for a hatch (wagon?).
What are reasonable upgrades I can do to my car ? I budgeted £5k so have £1k left . The car it very quick but I haven't got used to it yet.
