my 95 wrx has developed cold start problems, takes 5 - 6 times to start it when eventually runs both radiator fans run at full speed and engine check lamp is on any one had this prob / is it common that can help me out? me thinks it it might be something to do with the coolant tempreature sensor ?

Yes correct.. the coolant temp sensor, the ecu doesn't know if the engine is hot or cold so puts full enrichment and the fans on.

for sensor location look at here it will also tell you how to read the code out of the ecu and reset it.

most people won't believe me but try cleaning the crank sensor.

It is on the front of the engine between the pulleys with a 12mm iirc bolt and I tihnnk 2 or 3 wires coming out.. the cam sensor is identical and under the oil filler, so you know you have the right one at the front of the engine if it looks the same.

Take it out and clean with white spirit or similar.
