14 sec 1/4 mile for those 2 - not too impressive really.
An Sti would struggle to stay with an M5 I reckon - especially after 100mph.

hmmm, bit unfair methinks. The test was done at high altitude, thus the NA engine of the M5 lost out to the STi. I'd like to see the results of the same test performed, a) at the coast, and b) here in blighty. I think it might be a slightly different story then.

Anyway, makes good bragging for down the pub though!

You lot shouldn't be dissing the M5, it has been proven that the five is the fastest saloon by far, quotes 0-60mph 4.6, standing qtr 13.3 0-100mph 10.3secs, these times were all done with the traction control off, the traction control was on on the above test!
I get my info from what my eyes saw when autocar did there 0-100-0mph test feature last year!!!
Just a thought the mcclaren f1 road car holds that record for 0-100-0 in 10.1 secs!

... On a dry smooth straight road at sea level in a cool environment...
What about power to weight? How heavy is the BMW, would 1400kg+ be unreasonable?

0-100 in 10.3 sounds very optomistic to me.

Autocar test figures for M5

0-60 : 5.3
0-100 : 12.7
30-70 : 5.0
Weight : 1756kg

All these figures were beaten by the STi, & the P1 tested a couple of months ago.

Ro.

M5s are overrated - they don't give you the feeling you're in a go cart and at the end of a long journey all your joints are still in one piece.

If i had the choice of an M5 or a scooby then i'd take the beemer then immediately sell it.I'd then go and buy a scooby/evo/993 or whatever i fancied other than a beemer it'll only be a dealers car in a few years.

sunilp, I was being sarcastic. I did originally post a whole shpiele, but it's irrelevant.

I wouldn't buy an m5, but if I did have the money I wouldn't buy a scoob either.

how can you say an M5 is overrated..it is, without doubt, one of the best, if not the best, hi performance luxury saloon.

Anything that isnt impreza seems to get slagged off...get yer heads out your *****....if i could have an M5 over a Scooby then i wouldnt even think twice.

Uhmm, a tricky one. If I choose the wrong car, Im gonna get flamed eh?

I was thinking ferraris, but I actually forgot that I get 20% discount on b'mers, so an M5 would only cost 48K (probably cheaper still on import).

For that money, it'd be a 2nd hand esprit for me. Alot of people proably wouldn't agree with my choice, but I've always had a thing about them.

If I was contemplating spending that much money, an M5 would most likely be near the bottom of my shopping list.

BMW "The Ultimate Driving Machine!....do me a favour !!!!!
