Does new and unused oil "go off" after a number of years, anybody know?

Is the answer a straight "no", or does it depend whether the container's been opened or anything?

ive had a bottle of olive oil for over 2 years seems alright to me but it might be because its extra virgin,


if it sits in the ground for 1000's of years i cant see how there can be a problem

 

Why? - Have you got some Castrol XXL or Duckhams Q20/50 you want to use in the Scoob? (I remember those well! Duckhams was the "in" oil to use back in the '60's)
If it's a sealed container it should be OK for a few years at least.

RedLine Technical Support told me that RedLine doesn't have a shelf life. Motul Technical Support told me that Motul 300v's shelf life is 2 years. Someone at Shell that their oils are two years but I'm not sure if it depends on which type.

Yes, Oil does have a "shelf life".

This is normally around 5 years. What tends to happen is the additive pack and particularly the VI Improver (a very important part) drop out and end up in the bottom of the can.

You need to know how long its been kicking around but if you put it in and there's no oil pressure, you'll know what's happened.

There is no gaurantee that it will work but if its warmed up and shaken it may reformulate. But its not recommended.
