Default New Scooby buyer : Advice pls.

Hi everyone, first post and that.

I'm looking to buy a used Scooby Turbo, I want something like one of the last classic shapes, something like a V, X or T reg. Want to try and keep the miles on it as low as I can (afford).

What sort of things should I look out for, what sort of mileage do you get out of the clutch, gearbox, turbo, cambelt, etc.? I've heard the cambelt needs doing around 70k? I'm going to try to find one with a full Subaru service history anyway if I can...

Cheers in advance.

Scoobs are very reliable if left standard ish - I've had two UK models over the last seven years and the only fault has been a Lambda sensor (£90). Cambelts are due at 45k miles or 3 years on cars up to and including MY99, 60k miles or 4 years on MY00. Look for a Subaru or Specialist Service History.

Might be tempted to sell mine - 'W' Reg MY00 4 Door Deep Blue Mica 35k miles, FSH, 1 Owner.

Look on www.sidc.co.uk Frequently Asked Questions - some useful info in there.

Cheers,

Ian.

Welcome to scoobynet

If you are new then I'd go for a main dealer with a good reputation it might cost you more but lots of peace of mind.... maybe if you posted your general location someone might know a good local place.

Here in Carlisle we have *shameless plug* Stan Palmers who are pretty enthusiastic about the marque. I was actually looking at this car today..

http://www.subaru.r66internet.co.uk/...p?ID=500358909

which seemed pretty clean....

why ?? I have a bugeye and bought some wheels on e-bay which didn't fit my car and was looking at the brakes ... very sad !!

best of luck !!

Hi,

I now own my second Classic Scooby...great cars..got a really great deal bought it from a Scooby Member...

But before i found the one i have...drove up and down the UK looking for one...

Things to look out for:
Accidents - 4/10 cars had been hit and repaired (ofcourse they dont tell you that!)
Resprays - 2/10 cars had been resprayed, some with so much over spray that i walked off after seeing it)
Over run in engines - over noisy!

and a full service history is a must..as everyone here would agree it is very important to change the oil nearly every 2000 miles...

Anyways good luck...it can be a pain to find a decent one, but when you do...u'l be loving it..

I'm selling mine, I've been putting off advertising it, but it is S reg, 55,000 miles, met green classic turbo, completely standarad, not a single mod whatsoever. Full Subaru Service history, and it is still under the original Subaru Warranty, which has been extended year on year, it runs out in August but can be extended again for piece of mind. All round excellent condition.

PM me if you are interested....
