MAF on MY98. Can it be dismantled?
I'm wanting to know if the MAF itself will split from the housing it is normaly mounted in. The reason for this is that I want to make a cold air pipe similar to those available for the 00 onwards that draws air from the inner wing.
I was hoping to mount the MAF on the stainless pipe work I am fabricating to do the job.
Last thing, do I need to make sure that the MAF is mounted in the same diameter pipe as it was originaly so as to correctly sense the air flow/mass?
Cheers fellas

Don't know, but the cold air intakes invariably introduce a bend before the MAF sensor which will totally screw the MAF readings and run your car lean very possibly resulting in engine failure.
Some MAFs also don't like working in conductive metal pipes.
Same diameter helps, changes of direction will screw you up.
Bit of a minefield unless you have a mappable ECU or S-AFC.

John,
Thanks for you input my friend. I hadn't thought about the effects of the bend. My thinking is that I will have a good 10" between the MAF and the bend through into the inner wing. I would imagine that the air flow will be more stable the further away from the bend? yes?
I have a knocklink and scoobymonitor ready to see if the engine is likely to go pop.
Thanks again.
