About to collect my Scooby soon and im just wondering how far I sholuld expect it to go on a tank of fuel......Going to be using Optimax. Its a 99T plate wagon and standard. How big is the tank and what is the lowest and highest number of miles that I could expect ?

 

not got a clue how big the tank is, but i've had anything from 120 miles to the tank up to 350 on a leisurely motorway drive.

will normally see 19-23 MPG on my average driving week

it's standard eh? won't be like that for long

edit:- oops, sorry dropped a bollok there most was 250 miles, where i got the extra 100 from god only knows

from a personal point of view (my99 turbo).........

A 60 litre tank you will expect to get something in the region of

around town 16 - 19 mpg
around motorway 18 - 23 mpg

it all depends on how you drive..... Hope that helps and good luck with your new motor.

currently on 250 miles with just under 1/4 to go. driving steady 65 on 'A' roads mostly.

 

Never got close to 350 in mine but as you say, it depends how you drive. Commuting mostly between Bracknell and Reading I get about 220-250 miles out of a tank. Thats better than the 180 I used to get when working in Bracknell - must be all those roundabouts!

 

just picked bup my MY00 from Leeds drove back to birmingham and did 141 miles and use a little bit more than 1/4 of a tank.
Run on Optimax and standard.

MY00 with ECUTEK done 320 miles to Castle Coombe and back and the pase wasn't what I would call legal

 

320 miles on a tank...... , jesus, don't you mean 220? I've got an ecuteked MY00, and I'm bloody lucky to see more than that, however I drive. Might be worth changing your maf!

for info, the tank is 60 litres... if you do motorway driving, where, let's face it, there's sweet fluff all point in booting it - you can get pretty good mpg.

I went down to Filton the other week from Preston, and got 360 miles from a tank, and this was normal motorway stuff, not 56mph with no air con on.

Where these guys get 200 miles from a scoob on the motorway are from I don't know, jeeez, their motorways must be on a 45 degree incline..

 

My MY99 saloon does do 33 Mpg at 70 mph, 37ish at 60, 26 at 80.

Don't listen to the thrashers out there, if you want good MPG you can get it.

That said I did get 17 mpg once, a bad week at work....

and finally, looking back over the thread (and the few others like it!) it's easy to see that there are wild differences between ranges of cars - between 120 and 350 seems the 'norm' - even more weird since some are modded and some aren't.

can only conclude it's in the style of driver. If you are hard on the gas, hard on the brakes, then you'll get through a lot more fuel. Not that that's bad, some would argue that's what you buy a scoob for!

BUT, you can't (and probably shouldn't) drive like that all of the time... Besides, didn't someone one say the way to go quicker is to go smoother??? (flamesuit on)

I always buy Optimax or Esso SUL. Bought 95 RON only once in past 12 months on way back from Wales when it was that or push it. I do limited miles, 120 a week, 30 at a crawl to work and back and the other 90 national speed limit. I average 27 MPG.

I have a boost gauge, and at 60/70/80 I let off the gas a fraction to keep 'below 0' and that seems to make a huge difference.

I ought to say the weekly average varies between 21 and 31 MPG, depending on how relaxed I am. My boss knows how to get it in the low 20's and someone else knows how to lighten my right foot.

Enough said I think.

Unknown stainless induction kit (about to be got rid of for standard airbox)
Prodrive 'full' exhaust. Passed MOT so assume not de-catted.
Golf clubs in boot, ashtray full, a lot of lost change down back of seats.

 

Can't help but be stunned at some of this, 17 mpg generally in mine, and I've not had any points for ages now, so I can't be trying that hard. 33 mpg, are Subaru making an Impreza turbo-diesel that I haven't heard about? I'll say it again, check your maf sensors!

 

150 - 275 miles from a full tank.

140/50 when thrashing it,and 275 max on the motorway at 70 (ish)mph.

Average 220 from a full tank.

No joke mate. Either you are running 350hp or you are all urban running, or you brakes are seized.

Don't understand. Track day users get about 9-11 mpg, totally thrashed so something is UP.

 

Car is circa 270 brake, and couldn't be healthier. Never got what you're claiming, even when it was standard. Owned it long enough to be able to tell the difference over it having seized brakes or not....motor trade background in a previous life helps with this! Always circa steady 4k revs on motorways. " Some " red line activity on local blasts at weekends.

To those getting 220 or less to a tankful, not wanting to insult your intelligence, but do you work your MPG out, i.e. fill up, drive, fill-up again, divide £ price by pence per litre x 4.55 & divide that into miles covered?

Surely you must have 9 gallon tanks from import or older cars? 60 litre tank is 13 gallons, full to empty at 170 miles = 13 mpg!!?? Stuck in second gear?

Maybe fuel light comes on with 4 gals still in tank? Don't understand!

RE the mpg:

I dont bother to work out mpg,I just fill the tank to the top,reset the counter and check mileage when the light comes on and stays on.

Ive only ever got 300+ miles from a diesel or small car (800cc -1300cc),otherwise most cars do similar
distances on a full tank IMO.

 

totally agree with your sentiment MeshMark, but a colleague (OK consultant!) at work has a Bentley Turbo that averages 15 to a gallon. That's 2 and a bit tonnes of metal with a 6.75 litre twin-turbo engine. If your 1300 Kg Scoob averages only a little more than the same, shouldn't you investigate?????!!!!

At least I think it's 6.75 litres, it may be higher....

 

To be fair, I do see up to 250 per tank on the odd occasion, that's a very rare occurrance though, generally, as stated, no more than 220, and that's a bloody rare treat! Imprezas are known to run extremely rich at large throttle openings. At the risk of becoming repetetive with regard to my comments about maf sensors, I've just changed mine at 50k, and my fuel consumption has increased, indicating that it had begun to run weak, prior to the fitting of the new maf. The car now feels stronger prior to spooling up, and has lost the hesitancy it had started to develop. If you don't already treat the maf sensor as a consumable ( especially on MY99/00, where they are known to be poor ), you'd be well advised to adopt a more suspicious attitude toward it, particularly if you're getting unexpectedly good mpg figures on a modified car. A maf on a car of this vintage is only £77....small price to pay, considering the carnage you may cause by ignoring it/assuming it's o.k.

I had a Honda legend 3.2 v6 for some time and the fuel consumption was similar to the scoobies,except it didnt go quite as fast.

I dont think theres much wrong with 220 miles from a full tank,especialy if the micared is doing this (this car is probably in better condition than it was when it left the factory).

MY00 PPP even in family mode only does about 250 miles per tank. Have had 270 on a long motorway run. Normal use e.g school runs shops and some motorway etc about 220 miles per tank.
First week of ownership, never managed to get over 200 miles a tank. But I never bought it for economy.
Wife cant say anything as its more economical than her Volvo T5.

MY95 wagon with ScoobyECU, Centre De-cat and K&N induction.
Always fill up when needle touches the bottom mark and when i fill up it it only manages to get 47 litres in this usually around 230-250 miles. I have managed to get 54 litres in but the needle was on the middle horizontal of the "E" and i had 301 miles onthe clock then but no mods. I generally get 25 to the gallon.
