Bonnet Pins on Carbon Bonnets
Are they necessary due to the lack of strenth of the bonnet compared to a standard one ?
They do seem to wobble around a lot dont they ?
Has anyone any horror stories about bonnets fitted without pins which merely reply on the standard catch ?
Cheers

Speaking from personal experience my c/f bonnet starts to wobble a lot at about 85mph - certainly enough to make the 'door open' warning light on the dash flicker on and off. Anything in excess of 85mph and the warning light stays on permanently due to the bonnet lifting.
I didn't really want a set of pins, but I'd like a bonnet in my windscreen even less.

i have the same problem bonnet starts to flap about 60-65 reckon if i could get to 1oo plus the lot would either fly off or i,ll be in stevie wonder mode
had good replys from styling site as some chap there put on pins ,i think yes they are needed look good too .

I think they all flap at high speeds, well my c/bonnet does it.
My old ally bonnet fly up on me when it wasnt shut properley, luckly the damage was little new hinges & bonnet required. Hence the replacement to cf.
However there will be a time when I will have to part with my scoob, so the idea of drilling holes in the cf bonnet is a no, no.
Remove mods from my car & get the best value I can for the mods, put the car back to standard.
I dont think I would get much for a carbon bonnet with additional holes drilled in, not everyone's taste.
But the flapping does bring back some horrible memories plus ££££

Just gotta get the silver bits done WR blue and it's sorted
It's got bonnet pins (well the bonnet bits anyway) did you have problems ????

Trying not to go off topic too much, but part of the reason I didn't want pins was because of the general appearance that the usual 'catch' style ones have, as demonstrated by the pictures on the thread.
I ended up buying a flush fitting, locking set that don't protrude above the bonnet line like the usual catches. Not yet fitted, so I can't provide any pictures, although hopefully I'll get round to having them installed soon.

The flush fitting ones look sweet!
Where did you order them from?
Thanks.
Alan.

i've got a carbon fibre bonnet on my classic. before i fitted pins i couldn't go above 60 without the bonnet lifting. it was quite scary the first time it started to lift!!
i just got the standard pins and quite like the look of them on the car.

GE66 flush locking pins can be found here:http://www.ears.co.uk/acatalog/Onlin...teners_87.html awaiting their fitting to my bonnet, infact awaiting fitting of bonnet but hey it's not a scoob & it's not quite straight yet....

Ive had both bonnets. GRP backed bonnets flap about and so does 100% carbon bonnets. So again same as Jimmy Dell, didnt really want pins but had to put them on
Hi Paul...
I took the old "carbon" bonnet from your silver bugeye to the bodyshop today to have it all stripped back to Carbon fibre as you had most of it sprayed silver.
They thought it was actually a GRP bonnet with a carbon fibre panel insert in the middle
I just wondered if it was a "real" carbon bonnet or a GRP one with a panel??
I'm not having a gripe but didn't want the body shop to strip off the silver paint looking for a full carbon bonnet if they aren't going to find one !!
Cheers

WARNING
IF you are thinking about putting BONNET PINS on your bonnet please be aware that it voids any claim which you might have with that bonnet in the future !
I know this as this is exactly what has happened to me !
So please decide whats important to you in my opinion safety or warranty!

Got mine from the recent group buy, flaps like a demented pigeon so i thought it was a good idea to have the pins. Broke my heart drilling the bonnet but i quite like the way it looks now, kinda motorsport/rally stylee
