Car import woes - bad paint / SVA
Received my car a few weeks back. It was an import. Had one of the worse things that can happen to you when you import a car - the car had marks on the paintwork.
Although the car was new, when I picked it up from the dock it was filthy. I mean real bad.
So bad that two cleans later the car still looked dirty. This prompted me to buy some of the old Wax Wizard products which clean it up the car and gave it a mega shine.
The real problem was that it appeared to have lots of white specs. Something like overspray. It was so evenly distributed that I actually thought it was supposed to be like that. After a bit of investigation I noticed it was also on the windows and that it was slightly rough to the feel.
I was pretty upset but was unsure what to do. Do you send the car back, have problem with all the paper work and wait, respray or what.
In the end I was lucky. Mark from Wax Wizard came and removed all the spots. Amazingly he did it without solvents or abrasive mixes (should have heard him gasp when I mentioned the idea of using t-cut
). He used a clay block and some liquid.
I also had lots of fun and games with the SVA tests also.
If you are brave enough to go for an import do the following:
- Go and collect the car from the dealer personnally. And drive it whilst out there.
- Make sure you keep as much in the way of information for a personnal import. (ask me for ideas if you are unsure)
- Drive the car to the port and make sure it gets put into a container.
This will be extreme if you are buying from Japan, but if you are buying from somewhere like Cyprus, which is where I got my car from, it is ok. (PS the dealer has one WRX colour DBM left ready to sale now).

That's mine! - ok, it may be a different one, but you can't have it until I've picked mine up.
Sorry to hear of all you woes, but I'm glad the wizard has sorted you out. And may I thank you for not posting your horror story until you had a solution - my heart couldn't have taken it.
Did the SVA go ok once you managed to book one?

Triggaar,
Nope, it failed on the fog lamp (an external one was fitted). It was 50 mm to low. I drove around looking for a friendly garage. We bodged something together to get it through.
All tidied up now.
