Id post up the address of the dealer but my firewall is being very efficient today... DOH!
There is only one Subaru dealer in Grantham though, if you check out www.subaru.co.uk and find a dealer and go from there as they have the website (for what its worth) and their number

I've just cancelled mine, at John Wildings Kendal, I spoken to Chandlers last week and they have sold the WR1 in Autotrader. If you speak to Heath at John Wildings it might still be for sale.

To be honest when i saw the picture a few months ago and read the spec i ordered the next day, then i read it did not live up to figures being quoted any where, and when i saw it in the flesh i thought it was crap and that is just my opinion no offence to those who like it. So i test drove a fq 320 and thought it was 10 times my sti8 ppp was so i sold it and ordered an mr 340 which will be here in the next 4 to 5 weeks which many of you will think is crap, but i think it is a better car altogether.

I must admit I am getting a bit put off by the tested performance of the WR1 not matching up to the claimed figures - no such discrepancies with the Evo, apparently.

I know there are some guys here who can make a direct comparison between the WR1 and the STi PPP. If it's run in now, can you comment on the differences? Is the WR1 noticeably quicker? I guess the car will take a few K miles to loosen up properly, but all the tests I've read seem to conclude that the Scooby's performance has been exaggerated.

On another note, who has the longest left to wait for their car? I guess they must be about half way through the production if people have been assigned numbers in the 250’s, but I don’t have an ETA for mine yet. Just wondering, for those that ordered late, when you have been told you might get your car…

Cheers.

hi,i just order a wr1 bout 2 weeks ago, from carstins,in the midlands i am from manchester but they all sold out here, but i am abit puzzled to the statistics ,for the performance, and am in split minds on wether i shud just cancle an dget a mr340. how can a claimed 0-60 of 4.25,come even close ot the result evo magazine got, which was 5.3,thats not even close to a ppp,so i am confused here.can eny one speculate?

If you look at the torque figure for the WR1 and the STi PPP they are the same. Have a look on the prodrive website for the PPP figures. Also there is a differance of 10bhp. Do you really think you'll able to feel that?
30K for a car is a lot of money, there are alot of other options to take to get both better performance and looks IMOHO

i think that the peak torque is the same but the torque curve is very different more torque in the mid range me thinks (not that i care im sure my MY02 sti couls keep up with a wr1 anyways)

the peak figures hide the truth so ive been told along with the dcddaccdccdddaaddd thingamy jig all helps traction. Plus with an sti ppp you should have 18inch wheels on to get the maximum out of it (according to prodrive)

however i too am in disbelief at the figures being sooooo much better than an sti ppp

I think you'll find the WR1 has 11 Lb/ft of torque peak more than the STi PPP and 15.6 more BHP (peak)..................but headline figures don't tell the complete story, it all boils down to the torque & power curves over the entire rev range. The DCCD-A also helps a lot!!

I traded a 52 Reg STi PPP for the WR1, I've only done 750 miles so far in the new car (even though I got it in April - been busy, which is a poor show I know). The WR1 has a lot more torque at low revs (can't go over 4000) and the DCCD-A keeps it going exactly where you point it far better than a 'normal' STi PPP. The torque and diff combined left a Corrado G60 driver looking foolish when he tried to keep up round a few sweeping B-Road bends..................I bet he'd feel even worse if I told him I was limited to 4000 RPM!!

I can't say yet whether the claimed performance figures for the WR1 are correct, but first impressions are that it is far more eager to headbutt the horizon than my previous STi.

My only concern with the WR1 is that the 18's whilst improving A-Road grip and significantly adding to the (IMHO) jaw-dropping looks, do mean B-Road driving at less than 70% does lead to more camber/surface correction, due to the lack of tyre sidewall movement. Although, at press-on speeds, you don't notice it at all!!

So far it's a great car!!

.............one small fault, the intermittent wiper relay squeaks at delays greater than minimum..................which is annoying, but also quite funny when you hear it (sounds like someone strangling a mouse)!

Final comment:

The WR1 is more than an STi PPP with an options pack and new paint job. It's a much more complete car for UK roads!!

Nice review Lee, thanks.

Anyone loooking for a WR1, I know that Olympian in Poole have only sold 2 cars, I don't know if they still have any allocation but it could be worth a call.
