confused about turbo's...FAO andyf

Question confused about turbo's...FAO andyf

and now i'm confused as to what i would go for next, if i was to. as you might remember, i picked the fe 05 off you one cold dark night a few month ago after droppin it off to ya, but the way i always considered it, if i was to go bigger, was to get one of yer special 05/06 20g model's off you. i seen this and my mind went all funny. can you explain a wee bit about what your turbo is exactly? i mean, how the 05/06 part comes about and is a 06 better or what?

The 05/06 means that the hot end is from a TD05 and the cold end from a TD06. The 20G refers to the actual compressor size.

The ad on nasioc offers variations on the theme

This is a LOT of turbo for the money!

Pricing on these will be as follows:

18G Oil and Water Cooled TD06 turbine - $1395.00
20G Oil and Water Cooled TD06 turbine - $1495.00

18G Oil and Water Cooled TD05 turbine - $1195.00
20G Oil and Water Cooled TD05 turbine - $1295.00

18G oil cooled only TD06 turbine - $1095.00
20G oil cooled only TD06 turbine - $1195.00
My turbo is the similar to the 4th one down "20G Oil and Water Cooled TD05 turbine"

This is good for 400+ on Optimax, 440 with additives.

If you want more than this then go for the TD06 turbine version, I don't do these but they should support a further 30-40 bhp although there will be a lag penalty due to the larger turbine.

Oil and Water cooled will increase the lifespan of the turbo over an oil cooled only turbo. This is due to the reduction in carbon build up after shutdown on the water cooled turbo.

My advice is to go for the smallest turbo that makes your target bhp, for example, if you need 350bhp then no point going for the TD05/06-20g when the TD05 (std 16G) will do. This ensures your power band is as wide as possible. Contrary to popular belief, running a turbo at the top end of its spec doesn't necessarily reduce its lifespan.

i wasn't considering upgrading at the moment, just more curious as to what each turbo does and how the whole turbo thing works.
